Tilted Port

Recommended Posts

I was just curious if anyone has encountered a problem with their port tilting and moving out of place. Mine has tilted and so far the Dr. has still been able to do a fill successfully. I'm concerned that this may become a problem in the future and am a bit scared it may require an additional operation. Has anyone experienced anything like this and if so, what was the outcome? :)

I read somewhere, that adjusting a tilted port is a fairly simple thing, and the doctor could do it in his office under local anesthesia....

When I went for my first fill under floroscopy the doctor said My band was tlted but filled me anyhow. When I went for my next fill it was back in the right place. I guess it's quite common and nothing to worry about.

My port is tilted. Yes, the doctor did have problems getting me filled. After trying the first time unsuccessfully we went and did if under floro. After that we did them in his office but about 3 times he missed. By some sort of miracle I was still able to lose inches but not pounds and the port started to protrude more so he was able to locate successfully. So even though I am a year out I have just begun to start losing weight but in the mean time I have lost several inches and have dropped 3 clothes sizes. So dont despair.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear this is nothing too major to worry about. I noticed just today that my port seems to be lying a little flatter (not quite, but it's getting there). Also, Dr. Spivak did say it should get better as I lose more weight. So far I'm down from a size 28 to 24. I'll be so happy to see size 12 again, then 9 and so on. Baby steps. I'm just trying to make small goals each time and progressing from there. Thanks for all of your support!

Mine tilted right after surgery. It caused me a lot of pain & my doc was not able to access it for fills. I had the repair done in an outpatient procedure that took about an hour to an hour & a half (due to all the scar tissue that had built up). The procedure cost me $700. I was self pay. The repair procedure was a breeze. My recovery time was like 1 day. So even if you do have to have it repaired it's not a big deal! Good luck to you!!

I had a "flippin' port" They were not able to access it for my second fill. It required surgery to flip it back over and re-attach it. But it was a breeze..back at work the next day, just port pain which we all experience after it was reattached for a few weeks.

Mine too is titled...infact the nurse at Spivaks office was showing the other nurse that mine was a good one to learn on...I was thinking to myself maybe not!!! at least not on me!!!

I was told its normal due to the fat loss by the port area...she said nothing to worry about....mine infact is pointed downward and she told me most point upward when they turn...Oh lucky me!!!

I have had no problem recieving fills in office or with Spivak under fluro....He always does a perfect job, and "knock on wood" He has only had to stick me once everytime I have recieved a fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
