No fill & still eating like a bird - anyone else?

Recommended Posts

Wednesday I will roll into my 6th week post-op. I still have no appetite. My highest daily calorie intake is around 600. Most days I'm around 400. I don't have any noticeable restriction -- I also don't have any noticeable appetite. I'm satisfied after just a few bites. Water, Protein Drinks, or a few bites of food will completely fill me up for hours. Sounds like restriction, right? But on the rare occasion that I've been hungry enough to eat larger portions, I can with no problem and no restriction, so I can't chalk it up to that.

I feel fine, I have healed quicky & well, and I have no problems with energy, but I know this intake is not ideal nonetheless. In order to get more calories...I can eat when I'm not hungry - which I don't want to do. I've started mixing some fruit juices (whole juices - I hage a juicer - not store bought/sugary juices) to my Protein drinks, added a higher calorie protein, etc.

I've talked to the nutritionist & nurse for my program about this. The nutritionist was alarmed and thought I should be eating way more considering no fill, but had no real suggestions - though she did want me to call her Friday if my appetite hasn't increased by then... she said sometimes it can return overnight. The nurse seemed like she had heard it 100 times and told me that as long as I'm getting my Calcium & protein, I'll be fine.

I'm scheduled for a fill Friday and will also discuss this with my surgeon then.

If anyone else went through this, did you manage to add more calories? When did your appetite return?

What do youmean you have 2 weeks now that you can't eat? Do you mean you haven't eaten in two weeks?

Wheetsin, IMO if you don't have an appetite and aren't eating more than what you describe, you don't need a fill. There's no downside to delaying, and it sounds like you're doing absolutely great as it is!

Betje, are you saying you have never had a fill and suddenly you can't eat solid food? I hope you will talk to your doctor--that could mean your band has slipped or something else is going on (like a hernia). Please don't let it go...banding complications are minor UNLESS we ignore them. Take care and let us know how you're doing!!

I also don't have that much of an appetite. I don't eat Breakfast, I eat a salad for lunch with Protein and 1/4 to a half of cup of food for dinner. I had my surgery Nov. 10, 1995, I have lost 80 lbs and I haven't had a fill yet either. I am hoping that I will never need a fill. I have 26 lbs. more to go. Looking forward to reaching my goal and maintaining. This is what I worry about. With your weight loss you do not need a fill. If you consistantly lose between 4-8 lbs. a month it would be crazy if your doctor offered you a fill.

I was banded 8/29/05 and still haven't had a fill. I have lost 65 pounds. I have an appetite, but when I get that full feeling, I take a few more bites and then quit eating. I enjoy food even more since I am in control of it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
