Mental Illness

Recommended Posts

So I just wanted to put it out there that I have BiPolar disorder. I know some of you will sympathise and some of you understand and some of you will judge. I wanted to put this post out there because its big part of my struggle with the lap band and I am hoping I might help somebody else. I am also not ashamed and work everyday to be the best me I can. If anyone does not want to post in these forrums about their illness feel free to email me at helyen88@yahoo.com. Maybe we can support each other on our journeys. I gained over 100 lbs when I was first put on meds.

Please have a wonderful day,

Helen

Some of my best friends and neighbors are BP. It does not change the person you are. Good luck on your journey.

I admire you for your courage... you are tackling some big projects in your life in an effort to gain control of your life. Someone who judges you should not be anyone you concern yourself with.

We all have our own issues. If a person has a problem with you they have the problem of being and idiot!

I have fought clinical depression and axiety disorders for years. Now, on meds that make life great and helps me deal with stress. However, the meds do carry a possiblity of weight gain. I have to be really careful, but thankful for the meds.

I'm Bipolar too! Glad to know there are others like me. I'm not ashamed at all because this is an illness just like diabetes or heart disease. But I know not everyone sees it this way.

The illness does give us extra challenges that the others don't have. Feel free to e-mail me @ Puppypaws1957@aol.com.

Here's to support each other and others with this illness!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
