Good luck! I've never been a smoker, so don't know how tough it is to quit, but if you're feeling discouraged just Google "benefits of quitting smoking". That will give you a boost towards living a healthy lifestyle :)

I wish you success on that phase of getting healthy. I havent tackled that project yet... I know I need to... but my head isnt there yet. I justify it with being a very light smoker... which I know is lame.

But after losing all this weight I know when I am ready... I will do it.

You can totally do this!!

I quit 18 months ago and I absolutely LOVE being a non-smoker! I won't lie, quitting was brutal, but so worth it. I used to smoke close to 2 packs a day. Every time I got sick, it would end up in my lungs. Since quitting I haven't had a single chest cold, I never cough, and I don't get winded just going up a couple steps.

And honestly, you don't even realize how bad smokers stink until you quit smoking. I can't stand even walking by a smoker in a store because the smell makes me cringe. I can't believe I actually spent 20 years of my life smelling that bad.

My best advice is to clean EVERYTHING. Wash every item of clothing you own and all your bedding and sheets. If you smoke in your home, get some Febreeze and Febreeze anything fabric you can't wash, like furniture. Get some heavy duty cleaner and start scrubbing down your walls- you will be shocked and horrified at the nasty brownish stuff that will seep out.

It will take you days and days to all this, but doing it will give you incentive not to smoke again and undo all the work you've done ridding your home of smoke residue. Plus, you won't want that smell back once it's gone, trust me.

It's hard. Quitting smoking was simply miserable at times, I admit. But, it's so worth it.

You can totally do this!!

I couldn't agree more with my lovely friend Missy about the smell of nicotine from smoking. I have a friend who smokes and when she comes and visits me honestly she smells awful to the point I don't want to touch her coat to hang it near my other items in my closet, so I just leave it on the chair. I don't think she knows how badly the odor pours out of her because she does smoke. The saddest is when her very young daughter comes over she reeks of smoke , almost as if she was smoking a few packs a day. I think about her when she is in school and how others are affected by her smell. You know kids can be cruel. I did mention this to her Mother and only got lashed out so I don't say much ever!

Just as any addiction its a battle and I think you will benefit dearly by quitting, having just 1 addiction is horrible, but 2 or 3 makes it more so difficult to combat, but its doable if determined.

I sincerly wish you the best of luck and hope you do 'kick' the habbit once and for all ...

Best of luck to you! I quit 2 months ago and it is amazing how your sense of smell and taste come back. Now I can smell the smokers when they come back from break. So happy I no longer reek like them.

Hely88 I quit back in June for my surgery in November I have tried so many times before. I've tried cold turkey, gums, and Patches all with NO prevail. But this time I tried chantix and a New Banded Me. Hopefully this will work and since June I haven't wanted a smoke and that is with lots of stress in between this journey and a smoking husband. But it's all worth it just one day at a time.

Thanks so much for the support. I have taken chantix before and I agree it's great but this time I went cold turkey. I do use an electronic cig sometimes called blu. I get the o nicotine and they have a lot of fun flavors. The newest are peach schnaups and piña colada. Price is reasonable too. So glad I don't stink anymore or have to hide from my family. the electric cig really simulates smoking and is safe yo inhale.

Good luck you can do it.

It's hard enough giving up smoking and it will be even harder losing weight and giving up smoking. I stopped smoking 12 years ago and have never looked back I now hate it and think its disgusting I just wish I could do the same with food the only problem with that is you need food to survive.

Best wishes I've got my fingers crossed for you :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
