Alcohol And The Band

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed your band allowing you to eat more when you've had a drink or two? I don't drink much but i have noticed on the past 2 occasions i've had a beer or a glass of wine I semm to be able to eat more. I've got pretty good restriction, but after a glass of Chianti at dinner the other night I was able to eat my entire meal which never happens anymore!

Be careful with beer...beer has carbonation and most doctors advise no carbonation for the health of our bands

I don't know that it was easier for me to ear more after drinking but I did find myself on a few occasions over eating after having too much to drink and Yes be careful with beer!.... as my band got tighter it got to where I can't drink beer anymore because it just foams up and comes back out :( so I stick to wine now....... sure wish there was a bud light lime flavored wine :)

Alcohol does relax your band, so yes you can eat more after drinking.

Just be aware of that so you don't overeat. I enjoy my wine before dinner, I do log it and I'm very aware of my bands tightness or lack of after.

Good luck.

Be sure to drink before you eat, and wait 30 minutes after. Also, wine in moderation is no problem. It may even relax you and your band. Just don't burn up too many calories and save room for Protein.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
