I have found that I can tolerate the Protein Powder with milk, but it does take me forever to drink it because it isn't the best tasting stuff and the texture is alittle gritty. I was going to mix it in the blender with low fat/fat free ice cream and make a milkshake out of it. I'm just wondering what works for others?

I'm a month from surgery so this may not apply AFTER banding but I've found that mixing in frozen fruits, some cinnamon and splenda or stevia make it yummy. Here's what I put in my Protein shakes: raw spinach(for vitamins), frozen mixed berries (for Vitamins and color), frozen pineapple chunks -maybe 4 chunks (to sweeten), frozen pitted cherries (for color and sweetness), cinnamon, a scoop of protein powder, some chia seeds or freshly ground flax seeds (for fiber), a packet of splenda, 1/2-1 oz diet cranberry juice, COLD Water, crushed ice. And sometimes a tablespoon or so of Greek yogurt to make it smoother. I find the smoothy tastier if it's very cold and pretty thick. I want to make it clear that I am NOT a health food person (yet...I will be someday). I am a junkfood junkie who is trying to reform. So this Protein Shake is palatable even for a JFJ like me!

Try different powders. Some mix in better and taste great. I also mix in fruit or Greek yogurt with my Protein Shakes. Blend it well. Also, try unsweetened almond milk as the base liquid. It is a bit thicker and very low in calories and carbs!

I use pre-made did the power in the beginning but just to the point I couldn't find anything to mix with it so it was good. I don't drink it much because I don't fill satisfied or that I have had anything to eat and 3 -4 more hours to wait is just to long. I do drink it when I am low on cals/protient or days I go to the gym for that extra boost.................line dancer

I am on my 10 day liquid pre-op diet and am using Adkins premade shakes. I add 1/2 a cup of 2% milk to mine so I can get the milk I am required in my diet plus it helps it not be so think. The premade shakes I have found are not grainy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
