Happy Election Day! Now That's Outta The Way... Anxiety About Surgery...

Recommended Posts

Today I had my mandatory education class with my bariatric center. OMG. I thought I knew what I was getting into, but apparently not! So much information. My surgery date is 11.29.12.

First smack in the face was finding out that I wouldn't be in the hospital one day. I thought I'd go in the morning and be out by the afternoon. Nope! One night guaranteed stay in the hospital. Something about this announcement made me scared. Not sure why. I shouldn't be afraid since I AM ELECTING to have this surgery! I'm sure it's normal, but I just spent the last hour looking at youtube videos to remind me WHY I want to do this. I'm feeling a little better.

Second smack in the face was hearing the questions being asked by people in my class. All I can say is some people really don't need to waste their money or their insurance company's money on surgery. If you are asking about cheese whiz and soda and your surgery is in 2 weeks...something is wrong! Someone actually asked "What if I can't do the pre-op diet? I'm traveling out of town."

Third smack: Pre op diet, post op 2 day diet, post op 3-14 day diet, 1st 3 month diet, etc. Geez, my head is spinning! Thank goodness they've given me a cd with all of the slides they went over because otherwise I'd be in trouble. I was taking notes like I was in college again.

Definitely feeling a bit anxious about the next month. Anyone else feeling the same way?

Regarding the hospital overnight: Think of it as a "getaway" where you get the remote all to yourself.. Also - should you have any issues, you have medical staff there to assist. Its very unlikely to have issues.

Regarding those post op meal plans: Just stick to the shakes for now. You'll have plenty of time to digest all those hand outs regarding the next step. I think we all were overwhelmed by those sessions.

Deep breaths!!

best wishes!

I stayed overnight, just had my surgery on the sixth, and while it isn't like home, it was helpful. It was helpful because they were there to answer my questions, comfort me and tell me how much i could drink at a time, and it was comforting to know they were there. Honestly, i probably would have been more scared to go home right away. So much unknown. This is a good thing!

As far as the diet you will get through it. Im not even feeling hungry post op, but im having to set my alarm on my phone to remember its meal time.

I am so happy! Good luck to you. You will do great!

LOL...this totally made me think of my seminar. Someone actually asked, "How much it cost to lose 100 pounds?'" And she was SERIOUS! She really thought you paid per pound. She kept asking it over and over like the surgeon didn't understand what she was asking. Oh wow!

thank you thinkt2013! this helps me! I really am consumed with all of the pre-op jazz. My mind is swimming. Today I bought a food scale, Fiber gummies, and baby spoons! lol I think I'm overwhelmed because I know there's a lot of stuff that has to be done. But I didn't think about the benefit of having staff around to help with the initial consumption of liquids/meals. Thanks for slowing me down a bit.

NNicole209 people are so dumb. I know they say "there are no stupid questions" but they lied.

You're welcome! I kept asking "is this too big of a sip?" I learned that Water is just a regular drink for me. I don't need to make tiny sips. If i was sent home, i would have been second guessing myself. They were wonderful!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
