PB: From my experience, this happens 3 ways:

1. Didn't chew enough

2. Ate too much too fast (your bites followed each other quickly)

3. Ate too large a volume (took 3 bites past your "stopping" point)

I get a pain "behind" my sternum... it feels like a golf ball (or volleyball sometimes). That's when the acrobatics happen... I start walking & moaning & pounding my chest like Tarzan... and doing the chicken dance (do a search for PB or Productive Burp & read up on all the weird things we do).

Eventually, one of 3 things happens:

1. The food goes through & the pain stops.

2. You start sliming: tons of mucous (sp)... "heavy" saliva. I sorta "hiccup" (not really an out-and-out heave) & out comes the stuff.

3. You PB: the food comes back up. It isn't digested, so it doesn't really smell bad. Spit it out & hope that was it. Sometimes it takes 2-3 times to get it all out... depends how much you shoved in. (I've found myself taking another bite AFTER THE PAIN STARTS!!! What was I thinking? Silly girl! :))

Sweet spot: Most doctors fill conservatively. It will take several months to get to where your calories are restricted at the desired level without will power on your part & you're staying full in between meals. As you get close, it make take .1cc up or .1cc down to get to the best spot possible. Folks call that their "sweet spot". If you get more then that spot, you PB too often, or can't get enough calories in to not go into starvation mode. Any less then that spot & you can eat too much.

Hope that helped... good luck! :scared:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
