Does Anyone Use Celebrex

Recommended Posts

Was banded just over 3 weeks ago and went back to work today ( not easy as I have a very physical job). I was taking celebrex for all the pain in feet knees ect... My nurse said that the doctor MAY not want me to continue using the celebrex, and I won't until I talk to him,but I was curious if any bandsters use this med after their surgery?

No, Celebrex is classified as a NSAID, and is contraindicated for those who are banded.

I have many issues with arthritis and had to stop taking meloxicam (Mobic), also a NSAID as a result of being banded. I've had major challenges with trying to get adequate exercise and still be able to walk.

I'm still searching for a good alternative. I have to resort to hydrocodone when the pain becomes worse, but I can't live on narcotics forever...

I took Celebrex before surgery. There is transition without it, but as you lose weight, it joint problem, especially with knees gets better. You ortho doc might be able to give you some sort of injections to ease the pain.

actually I've been on celebrex for a year or so, even since being banded. my dr doesn't have a problem with it.

I have to stop celebrex 2 weeks before surgery. They will tell me when I can start again. I'm hoping I won't need to, by losing ten percent of weight it is supposed to help joints/muscles feel so much better. We will see.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
