The good news AND the bad news

Recommended Posts

Good news 1: I got the job I interviewed for last week. Yippee! 50% pay increase and half the trip to work.

Good news 2: I had a fill last Wednesday and I can't eat a whole plate of food anymore. This has happened before after a fill, but last time my restriction lasted for a few days and I'm hoping the new "tweak" will keep me restricted for a while because...

Bad news: Every single one of the insurance plan options at my new job specifically exclude bariatric surgery or the maintence thereof i.e. I have to self-pay for anymore fills...ever.

Those of you who have followed my journey know I only lost 11 lbs in the first 22 weeks after surgery. I am just now getting to the point of restriction, and I've lost 2 lbs in the last 2 weeks. It might seem a little slow to some, but I am thrilled with a pound a week. I want to keep losing like this. Guess I'll be shelling out a portion of that raise to the fill doc, huh?

That is a excellent raise. It is well worth to have to pay for the fills as you making the money!!! Keep on pushing on an everything will work out...The raise will be here forever but the fills and maintence will somewhat drop off when your at 135 sexy pounds!!!! But then you will have to buy more clothing...what the hell. make money spend money!!!

:) you lost TWO POUNDS?! Excellent work there!

Perhaps because it is a pre-exsisting condition it would be covered? I'd look into that.

I'm so excited that you are finally starting to lose weight. Excellent news!

oh, heh, and congrats about your new job too :clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
