5 Years In- Have Had Backsliding- Need A Local Seattle Buddy/ Mentor

Recommended Posts

I'm Jen- been banded for 5 years and its changed my life. Following being banded, I got divorced, lost 70 lbs, moved three times, had two fast & furious relationships, and finally found solid footing in a relationship the past three years. Just got remarried this past August and I'm having a LOT of my old habits coming out of the woodwork. It would be nice to talk with someone about this and hear what their journey has been like. I'm in Des Moines, WA- but travel to Seattle all the time. Thanks!

I know how you feel. Over time it becomes easier and easier to eat things that initially were difficult and also motivation levels are not so high. I also need to get back on track.

You have to want it bad. Get back on the wagon girls think about how happy you were when you were at your lowest weight. Sometimes when we get comfortable with the people we are with we gain weight back but then you're unhappy. Chin up and get moving.

I also know how you feel. I've been banded since 2009 and feel like my mind isn't where it should be. I haven't "lost" any more weight for over a year now. It is my own fault. Haven't been working on it like I should. I too have slipped into some old habits and feel like I can't reverse it. Would love to have some pals that can relate and help me focus and get back on track too.

Hi Ladies, I'm getting banded tomorrow. First of all think about everything that you went thru before having the surgery. Put yourself back there mentally. You DO NOT want to be here again!!!!! This pre op has been the longest 2 weeks ever!!!!! I'm curious how you gained the weight back. Maybe you should go in and be tightened again and start back with the Protein Shakes. Are you eating when your not hungry (which is what I did all the time 2 weeks ago!!!!) or is just bad food choices???? Curious to hear what your experiences have been. You can do this!!!!!!!!

Back to basics! Any writer with writers block or artist with artists block, sportsman with a block, ALL OF THEM HAVE THIS IN COMMON:

When they get in a rut, they go back to the basics, and begin again, from fresh.

good luck, bite the collective bullet! Sandy

My weight came on after living in a household that watches tv every night- I don't have that in my life prior to the weight gain. I had a solid job before I started gaining- so stress and therefore stress eating and alcohol consumption have contributed. Additionally, I quit being as active after an injury resulting in knee reconstruction, which took 2 months before I could even walk unassisted. After that- I got serious & dedicated- recumbent bike, etc. Started planning our wedding, had a pulmonary embolism in June this year- and it all went to hell from there.

Not proud of this story- but it's honest.

@bigtruk: thank you, but I guess there's not much to say. All I have to do is decide that I am ready to get back on track. I've been cleared by my doctor to be active again, so now I just need to get dedicated again and also begin eating properly again. Easy to cheat the band if you aren't paying attention. I'm an adult and I just have to take control of my fate! Thanks to all for listening. Is anyone local? Seattle area? It'd be great to meet some locals who have the same lifestyle I have.

Im sorry to hear of yer frustrations and illness. I too was like you, and would never watch "the idiot box" as I used to call the TV. The illness came upon me at only 39. It was touch and go for several months, but I too gained the weight from being sick and down and out. Hang tough, there are journies yet for us both, in this life. Know this, please. Sandy ,

who now watches the idiot box A LOT! Mores the pity, and this too will come to an end, no pine boxes involved.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
