I Got A Feeling Of I'm Sooo Hungry!!!

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op ( banded 10/18) today I felt like I hadn't had food in forever... Is this normal??? I wanted to eat everything in sight... Also, I am tired of eating the same things, chicken, veggies, eggs, etc.... I would be sooo grateful on any ideas to help me. My first fill is 10/28... I feel like I'm in a fuzzy place right now, plus my tummy is still a little swollen.... It could be my hormones, ( TOM, I know tmi) but I feel blah and just more blah.....

Funny thing, I just posted something similar to your challenge. I am 1 month post op and the starving hunger began 4 days after my surgery. I don't want to give you bad advise but I listened to my body and went through the week by week reccommended food phases a little quicker than what I should have. I decided that starving all the time was not for me, especially since I was physically exhaused, almost fainted, and could not take care of my family or work. I stuck mostly to the diet but incorporated more softer solids. You are definetly going to have to try to to mix up your menu because feeling bored with your food will lead to grazing. Remember, this is life changing so your way of cooking must also change. Start with your protien, if you have room then move to veggies, and last is the starch. We are newly banded so digestion is still an issue but if you eat in this order then you should feel more full. I got my menstrual cycle 5 days late and my hormones were raging. I was craving everything and totally fell of the band wagon. I think today is my last day and I found my self control again. So if your starving then eat. But make sure its going to be something that is going to satisfy your hunger and not your craving. Good luck!

It sounds like you have a lot of head hunger. You seemed to have moved through your stages quickly, too. At 2 weeks, I was still in full liquids. Take it easy, try some sugar free pudding, or perhaps Greek yogurt. Good luck, Karen

Thanks guys! I do think I moved very quickly, but I healed so quickly after surgery that I felt as though I was starving. I am going to focus more on Protein and keeping myself hydrated...

I don't think it is head hunger. I totally get it because I was really hungry. Protein is def the way to go since it fills up our tummy faster. I also noticed that hydration helped battle my fatigue. oatmeal is really good because it is creamy and a bit dense making you feel full longer.

Thanks!!!! I'm trying to try new foods. I just don't want to fall in that old trap. I do miss food, I need encouragement to go along with this new life. I was so blessed that I healed so quickly, had no gas pain and was able to get around so quickly. I feel like I'm starting to burn myself out on the same old foods, I would appreciate any help with this.....

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
