Kimberly- WHoo- WHooo!! Yeh for you and your very supportive Dr!! Man, that's so cool what he did for you! I imagine, of course depending on the contents of the report, that you should be all set if all they require is past documentation of frequent dieting! Yeh for all of your past attempts being documented! You don't have to wait for the insurance approval to come thru to have your consult with the surgeon. If your dr has submitted the referral to the bariatric center, call the center and schedule that first appt! There is so much that you can get done in the meantime!

Glad it's good news-

Sarah

Hi Sarah...you are so "uplifting" I am fortunate to have found you in the beginning of my journey. Don't I have to go to an informational meeting first?? The next one is July 17...I feel like hurry up and wait..lol. Kimberly

Kimberly,

Yep- I'ts Friday! I'm sorry- yes, you do have to go to the info seminar first!!! What a dufus I am! I had gone to the info meeting, and then seen my Dr- it will only go that much faster for you! I actually stumbled upon the meeting on a whim. Someone I know's daughter had it done, so that day I went online to get the info- and the seminar for that night was 1 hr from then! I hopped in my car and drove the 45 minutes to Augusta- kind of a last minute thing, but boy am I glad I didn't wait until the next day to look up the info!!

Thank you so much for correcting me!

Sarah

You don't have to apologize...I was just making sure...I too am about 45 minutes from Augusta...I am in Bath. I am hoping we can do as many things as possible on the same day just because of gas prices. Boy I hope you are right and things do move right along. I am shooting for early September. If my insurance co still wants me to go on another diet than I am looking at some time after the holidays. Thanks once again...have a good weekend! Kimberly

I was banded 6/10/08, with Dr. Wolff through the Maine medical center's program in Portland.

Allana, Did you have a long wait to get in to see a doc in Portland? I have heard the wait is from 1-2 years. How are things going for you so far. I am going to the info meeting in Augusta on Thursday so I am just starting out on this long road. Kimberly

My wait was only 5 months from the initial interview to when I first met with the Dr. I started my first appointment May 07, and had my surgery June 08. Going throug the program, and meeting my insurance's requirements, took the longest time.

If you have any other quiestions please feel free to email me.

Angela

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
