Reactions To Whey And Soy Protien

Recommended Posts

I've had the band a week and have had constant diahrreah since. I've tried 2-3 types of whey Protein drinks, and now soy, and it still happens like clockwork, just a few minutes after I start drinking my shake. Is this normal? I'm mixing only with Water, so I don't know what else to do.

Help!!!!!

I had the same problem, I tried whey isolate and soy Protein and they both made me sick (bloating, gas) and was surprised that they both did this to me as I used to be able to do both when I was younger. I found some weight trainer websites and found that both cause people gas a lot of times, so this may your problem. I found that pea protein does not make me sick, but it's a taste to get used to, I tried sugar free syrups, but it didn't help the taste much, so this did not last long. But then I found Zoic at Big Lots and the flavors are good (don't care too much for Cookies and cream) and this does not make me sick. It is not whey isolate, but if you wanted to give it a try, you could always run this by your nutritionist, mine okay'd it for me since I had problems with the others.

Try hemp Protein Shakes. I had problems with soy and whey as well. Hemp was weird tasting but I got used to it. I also got an egg white Protein. Weird tasting and very frothy, but it worked well. Hopefully you don't have too much longer before you get to soft foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
