I get banded nov 7. I have cheated a few times on my full liquid pre op diet and I'm scared I haven't lost the weight for my surgery. I've lost 14 pounds. Do u think my doc will do the surgery? I weigh in on the 6th.

I'm sure they'll do the surgery. However, it is really important that you follow your doctor's orders. If you're not compliant on the pre-op, will you really be compliant on the post-op? You will have to diet after this surgery in order to be successful.

They say the pre-op diet is important to shrink your liver... however, I've always thought it was a test of how well you'll do post-op, too.

The answer to your question totally depends on the medical opinion of your surgeon...

You will need to rely on will power and self determination for success with your weight loss journey. Consider the realities of that statement before you get the thought in your mind to "cheat". And then make your decision...is cheating on the diet worth it in the long term? When you "cheat" on your diet, you really only harm yourself.

Your degree of diet compliance will determine your level of success with this journey...you hold the power and the key.

Best wishes...

Try not to think of this as a diet. To be successful with the band we must make a lifestyle change - that is, a permanent change in our relationship with food and exercise. Diets are temporary, short-term. Your pre-op diet is short term, your post-band life is long term.

Thanks for the advice. I weigh in today. If I didn't have a problem sticking with a diet, I wouldn't be here. As of today now, I've lost 18 pounds and I'm feeling pretty good about my weight loss even though I cheated a couple times. I'm so excited, my surgery is scheduled for tomorrow!

you deserve to treat yourself better than cheating

although some consider it okay, some do not

if you cheat on your post op, you could injure yourself.

its so not worth it. the way i see it, if you cant control

what/how you eat now, how can you after the band.

the band will help you eat less but it wont stop you from

eating the wrong types of foods..

i wish you all the luck in the world...congrats to you :)

I agree with CG! You need to stop thinking about cheating and focus on compliance and life style change. You truly can do yourself harm if you cheat on the post op diet. Buck up! IF we could do it you can too!

Woooo hoooo, I actually lost twenty one pounds, hi ho hi ho, off to surgery I go! Tomorrow is the date!

Great news! But please stop thinking about cheating or ways around doing what works. If you cheat on your post op liquids and mushies you can cause harm to your stomach, band and overall health. Then once you go on regular foods if you cheat you will not have the success I am sure you desire. Just some words of wisdom from someone who has been there

Best wishes for a succesful surgery.

I think it is important at least for me to really understand that the band is just a tool and not a fix. The band will not stop you from cheating. Also congrats on your weight loss and good luck and well wishes on your journey.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
