With much thought and....

diligent research, I have elected to procede with the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. I know the risks that are associated with this surgery and am willing to take those risks. I have seen way too many lap band conversions to the DS(duodenal switch) and feel that this is the best way for me to go. I am not advocating DS over lapband but I think that it is the best way for me to go.... I wish you all the best.

Good luck with your DS! I know that GeezerSue and Rachel are both very happy with theirs, and have had great success with theirs. I hope you have a speedy recovery too.

Don't be a stranger here to LBT. I don't know if there are support boards for the DS like LBT, but I want to tell you that your experinces will very valuable not only for folks trying to decide if and what WLS will be the right choice for them.

Cheers!

:clap2: Yeah! This seems to be the bandster way. You know how they say "The band is the thinking persons surgery"?

It's true. The band is obviously the best (for your body) and safest way to go. When problems arise like they have for us, what's a thinking person to do? Compare/contemplate and before long it becomes clear that the DS has clear advantages (for some) over the RNY. The DS seems to be the next step...;)

Congrats! I hope you get a date soon, let us know!

Good luck ;)

Are you going to do it as a two part procedure... with the sleeve gastrectomy first... or all at once?? Reason I'm asking is that the weight loss with just the sleeve is supposed to be quite good... might mean that you don't need the malabsorptive part of the operation.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
