I have always had a problem with weight loss compliments. I'm sure it's emotional issues- but still, I'll need to get over it so I can have one less stress once I'm banded. Like if someone in the past says you look great did you lose weight, I'll say "Oh no I got my hair highlighted". Or someone will say "You're losing weight, are you trying?" I'll say no but thank you and compliment them back to change the subject. I just feel like weight compliments make me feel like people must have thought I looked terrible before. I know it's silly becuase even fit people get weight compliments. So...how do I get over this?

When my family compliments me I feel great. Just yesterday my grandpa said I look happier. But when its people I don't know too well I get so weirded out big time! I guess I am used to feeling invisible. Im totally curious to what everyone has to say. I am worried about the compliments when I get back to work since we have tons of regular customers. Can't really handle compliments well either. I can see the difference and it has only been 20 lbs.

Last time I lost a lot of weight I always had people I didn't know ask how I was losing it. I think that's what freaked me out. My friends and family know what I did but I don't need some random person passing judgement.

:D I have to chuckle, people say to me. WOW, I do not remember you being that (long pregnant pause) and I add "FAT"! Then they always say, no you weren't fat just bigger. Oh come on let's face it I was "FAT". and they were just too kind. I know I was fat, so I know they did. The main thing I get asked now is how did you lose all your weight and I smile and say, I eat healthy! What I really think is funny is the people who never say a word or turn around and walk off when people compliment me.

Oh lovethenewme, I am one of those guilty of being slow to give weight compliments. Maybe because I don't like receiving them myself. Maybe because I try to give compliments about peoples personalities and good things they do. Or I might say wow you have so much energy. I know it's silly, but it's no offense to the person losing weight. I hope others don't notice that I avoid weight compliments. UGH one more thing to work on. lol

Accepting a compliment is really very easy. Just smile and say thank you and move on if you don't want to engage in conversation about the specifics of your loss. Once you get down several sizes I bet you won't have any trouble. Enjoy!

Wow I feel exactly the same way. Whenever I get compliments I feel very queasy and usually don't believe it. I assume the person just complimented me to "be nice"

Makes me feel awkward and also since I don't really notice my weightloss it seems untrue/not possible. I still thank the complimenter but walk away uneasily from him/her

I never really give weight compliments to other people because I assume it will make them uncomfortable

Take every single compliment that comes your way and use it to remind yourself just how great you are doing. It takes time and effort to change how we view ourselves and I think that by accepting other people's compliments, I have been able to understand that I am worth them.

LOL, last week, when I was feeling particularly good in a new outfit, I even complimented myself!
