Survey Says.... Torn Port Muscle!

Recommended Posts

So after being in severe pain for almost 2 weeks, I went to my doc to have my port site checked out. Sure enough, just as I had expected, I tore the muscle and scar tissue around my port from a PB episode. I am a new bandster (banded 9/25/12) so I haven't even had a fill yet. I am on some pain meds now but need to take it easy. Easier said than done bc I have an attention thriving 18 month old Mama's boy. Has anyone else torn any muscles around their port? If so, how long did it take you to recover?? Any advice?

I have tore my port away from the muscle 3 times. I've had two revisions to sew it back in place and needing a third just cant afford it. Pretty painful for a few weeks.

With you child this will be hard but avoid any unnecessary bending!

Yes, it's when you burp and vomit a little with the burp. Pleasant stuff huh? lol Fortunately, I have not experienced this! :)

I had the exact same thing happen from a gallstone/morning sickness attack last week. After 2 ER visits, I was finally admitted for severe dehydration. I spent Wednesday night and most of Thanksgiving day in the hospital. Now, the dehydration and gallbladder issues have calmed down, I have this excruciating pain all around my port, like I have ripped the sutures loose. How long does it take for that pain to calm down?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
