If you can handle walking, you need to walk to get the gas out, once i started walking more and more mine went down. Im 3 weeks today post-op. I got my visitor the day after surgery, not fun. Drink as much Water as you can too it helps.

My surgeon said no other exercise except walking until 4-6 weeks, guess he will tell me more on Monday. Supposed to keep our core quiet so it can heal without added stress of exercise.

Thanks!!!! I have my Wii Fit Biggest Loser and I'm starting to do about 10-15 minutes. I will start walking to get rid of the gas.... I mean I know my tummy was already big but, know it's like someone put a big ballon inside me. I sometimes find it hard to drink Water, especially if I'm not thirsty it's like I'm forcing it and I'm full....

Ya i was shocked how much i looked like i had a pregnant belly after surgery. My oldest daughter is having a baby in 4 1/2 weeks and we were comparing who looked further along, lol.

I keep a Water container with me always. I got one that i can keep track of how much i drink and it has a metal screen in it so i cant take big drinks so i think thats been helping me, there were days in the first couple of weeks i was lucky if i could get 1 cup in, now im drinking about 5-8 cups a day. I found if its flavored i tend to drink more of it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
