Hello my name is Cindy and I have made commitment to have lap band surgery which is scheduled for Jan. 10th. Yes, I am excited for new active life. But, am also scared. I am afraid I will be one of those nightmare results and will be sick. Can I hear from folks who had the same thought and how u felt from the time u woke up? Your u in pain? Able to deprink? Thank you. cindy

I haven't been banded yet but I sure do have the same feelings and fears.

The unknown is so scary, but it is also going to be an amazing adventure.

Love your screen name!

Hi Cindy and welcome,

I am new here also. I was banded on Oct. 25th. Just 9 days ago. My number one concern before I got banded was when I was gonna be able to eat again lol. Each day has gotten better and better. The first week is just liquids, which sounds hard I know, but considering you'll be recovering and only have the ability to take small amounts anyways you don't really pay it any attention. It was around day 5 when I was like I HAVE TO EAT!!! But I waited until my 1 week post op to get the go ahead to move on to mushies. Refried Beans, cottage cheese, sugar free pudding, mashed potatoes. That has been mostly what I have been eating. Each day that passes It feels better. Ive lost 14 lbs already and can't wait to get to my goal. Good luck to you.

Welcome Cindy! I was banded 9/4/12. I feel great! I haven't had any complications. I was a little sore after surgery but the pain was nothing to how I felt after giving birth :P I just reached two months I am down 26.8 since my surgery date an have lost more than 16 inches off my body. This band was the BEST THING I EVER DID!!! I wish I had done it sooner :)

The fears you have are normal. We all have some form of them. You just have to use your band as the tool it is. It's not magic, you still have to make good choices and remember the eating rules, small bites, chew well, Protein first.

Good Luck on your journey. This is a great place for support and advice.

I'm new can't figure out how to work this forum. Just starting out my bmp is 30 afraid I might not make the cut and be stuck with the weight for 20+more years. I would have the surgery tomorrow if I could tired of being fat. Can anyone tell me what to expect

Sorry to burst your bubble, but lap band is only for people with a bmi of 35 or higher. And 35-40 bmi patients must have at least two comorbidities...ie diabetes, hypertension, etc.

Nnicole209, actually some docs don't require comorbidities for BMI under 40 IF you're self paying.

What about a 30 BMI? I thought I read somewhere that they were only approved for above 35?

I wasn't trying to be a hater or come across as rude and if that is how it was perceived, I'm sorry. You said you were afraid you might not make the cut and I was just telling you what I'd read. I just know that when i was looking into everything that is the information I came across and I was just putting it out there. With my insurance, those are the requirements, but as I've come to realize on this forum...everyone's situation, dr, insurance, etc is different. Good luck to you.

My BMI was 30 when I started my journey. No health problems other than 50 lbs of stubborn fat. My Doctor gave me my band no problems. I didnt want those 50 lbs to turn to 100, 150, or even 200 lbs. Best thing I have ever done for myself.

Awe cut nnicole some slack. She's one of the sweetest people on here!

I didn't know you could get wls with a BMI of 30 unless self pay. Good to know. How did your insurance authorize it? Did you need another condition linked to being overweight? What insurance do you have. I'd love to have some of my friends switch to ones that don't cause issues with authorization.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
