Those little goodbyes *Everyone Please Join In*

Recommended Posts

That post about the last minute pre-surgery freak out got me thinking. It's something that most of us have gone through or will go through. You wonder if you made the right decision, if you should back out now, if you might die, if maybe you haven't *really* tried hard enough to lose weight on your own. When I have those moments, I think of my "little goodbyes" - saying sayonara to all of those tiny little things that happen every single day to make life as an obese person so difficult and so very painful.

We all know that losing weight will make us healthier, live longer, and resolve some of our health issues, and those things are important. But it's those little things that help keep you going day after day. I thought it would be fun if we had an LBT little goodbyes thread. We can all help each other remember exactly why we're doing this.

I'm saying goodbye to...

...back pain I get whenever I walk for more than ten minutes

...sweating in public while people around me are nice and cool

...shopping at Lane Bryant

...inner-thigh chafing that sometimes gets so bad that I can't walk

...parking in a tight space and then struggling to get out of my car

What are your little goodbyes?

I guess I was different because I had no jitters or worry, I was plain excited and couldn't wait to get on the surgery table. I was living in suicide fantasy at 317 pounds, though too chicken to go through with it. I think another 50 pounds up would have given me the courage to end my own life.

So goodbye to thoughts of leaving this world sooner than necessary.

NOW I DANCE DOWN GROCERY STORE ISLES. GOODBYE TO SADNESS!

Saying Goodbye to shaving legs that have a surface area of most peoples entire body.

Saying Goodbye to chafing inside of legs.

Saying Goodbye to rolls of fat that keep me from bending how I want to

Saying Goodbye to the fat under my arms that waves by it's self

Saying Goodbye to plus size clothes forever

Saying Goodbye to being over the weight limit on most outdoor chairs

Saying Goodbye to looking like a fat dummy in a Honda Accord, I will finally fit in it.

Saying goodbye to my knees not hurting

Saying goodbye to my shorts riding up in between my legs

The one thing that I look most foward to is wearing my wedding ring. I refused to have it resized, so now I can' t wear it. Center Diamond is 2 ct. radiant cut in platinum. with baggetts on the sides. My husband always ask me, why don't you wear you wedding ring? Well I will soon.

I can't wait to wear sexy strappy shoes, if you have fat feet they just don't look right.

I will be able to find shoes period!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is all for now. Love this thread.

Saying hello to comments like "Wow, you look great!"

Saying hello to taking control of my life again.

What I'm hoping to say goodbye to:

Chairs with arms that dig painfully into my thighs

Booths at restaurants that press into my stomach

Getting winded walking up a small flight of stairs

Not being able to keep up with the rest of the office when we walk to get sushi and lagging two blocks behind

Feeling like I am going to pass out from exhertion from walking with my boss to a client meeting

Asking for a seatbelt extender on airplanes

Traveling in Europe not being able to fit AT ALL into ANYTHING (bus seats, movie seats, theater seats, train seats!!!)

Comments from strangers

Exceeding the weight limit for a treadmill

Not being able to take a bath because I can't fit into the tub

Feeling like I'm choking when I lay on my back or side because the fat from my chest rolls onto my neck

Swollen ankles

Struggling to tie my shoes, paint my toenails, or put on socks

Never being able to wear shorts in public

Having to always wear stretch pants under my skirts so my inner thighs don't bleed from rubbing together

Not giving a crap about my appearance because I'm so fat that who cares anyway

Feeling like a sore thumb at parties

Sweating in the winter

Not being able to clean my house or wash dishes for an extended period of time

Not being able to scrub the floor on my hands and knees, or thoroughly wash the tub because it's too tiring to bend over.

Being hot in cold air conditioning

And I'm sure I could think of a few more.

Thanks for starting this thread!

Ditto to all the things everybody has already said plus......

good-bye to saying I don't really mind being fat because the number on the scale isn't who I am.

Saying Goodbye to:

Having NO ENERGY all the time

Dreading getting ready for work in the morning because I have NOTHING to wear and end up wearing the same "fat pants" 3 times a week

Not wanting to have sex with my wonderful BF because I feel gross and fat

Not wanting to go out with my girlfriends for cocktails and other NYC things I used to love because (1) I feel gross and too fat, and (2) I'm wearing my "fat pants"!! :ban::)

Dreading taking pictures and when I do, being super focused on my fat, blubbery arms

Not being able to wear 2/3rds of the clothes in my closet

Not being as confident as I used to be

Not feeling as pretty as I used to feel

Not feeling like I'm in control of my life and can do anything!

GREAT THREAD!

I look forward to saying goodbye to:

Being out of breath everytime I climb the stairs.

My husband's ex-wife referring to me as "the fat lady".

Lane Bryant and Avenue.

Not chaperoning field trips with my kids because I don't want to embarass them.

Worrying if I will be able to fit in the seats in public places.

Looking at food as a hobby.

Being uncomfortable because I am always the largest person in the room.

Not going to the beach because I feel like a beached whale.

Wow, this could go on forever.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
