Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I had my lapband 3/28/11. How do I know when it's too tight? I've had many fills now, and finally I'm losing but I feel I can only have 1protien drink, small mushy food or I throw up please advise thanks

I am struggling a little bit with possibly being too tight as well. I cannot eat ANYTHING from the time I wake up (6 am) until 10 am; I have started to have some late night coughing. I think I am going to ask my doctor to take a small amount out and see if it helps. I think when you get close to the green zone, you have to constantly tweak the band 1/2 cc out; then 1/2 cc in . . . just my 2 cents.

how long has it been since your fill. I know everyone is diffrent but it often takes me a week to two weeks for the swelling to go down after a fill. Maybe it justvtakes me longer to adjust to my new size bites but I usually stay on liquids for 5-7 days then add mushies after that and stay on mushies 5-7 days. After that I introduce solids slowly. I dont know if this could be the case but just thought I'd share my experience just in case your in the same boat

Too tight!!!! I find that you can end up gaining or having troubles if you are just eating mushies, that's not quality eating and will hurt you in the end. I have suffered through two weeks of too much restriction up until this week. So, I probably should have not filled for another month but I was hasty. Which hurt me in the long run. Sure I made it through these two weeks and lost a good amount but it wasn't pleasant... And it should not have to be that way. I'm better now but in hindsight, I might have fine different. Love my band but must listen to our bodies.

Reminding everyone that it is not just about getting fills. If you are eating solid Proteins, not Liquid Protein, you would only need a fill if you are not satisfied for 4-5 hours without eating again. Do not get fills and eat mushies or sliders. Once you advance to solids, you should be eating solids. Talk to your NUT.

Every dr has a diff schedule for fills. Some prime it at placement (surgery). I waited six weeks. Have only had one and am 10 mo post op.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
