Help I Want To Give Up

Recommended Posts

My doc says I don't have to do a pre-op diet. But I am a total sugar junkie and want off the stuff. Do y'all recommend just going cold turkey and getting off it? Or does anyone recommend a more gradual approach? Any thoughts or advice are welcome.

I don't know if it would be possible for ME to gradually get off sugar. Manufactureres put sugar in everything. I went cold turkey and it took right around four days, then it was behind me. You will know your body better than anyone else.

I completely understand how you feel! I am drinking all my shakes and really want to comply! I But I think my body is adjusting because I feel a little light headed. I am not "hungry", but I can tell my body is not use to this. I feel like I "NEED" to eat some food! However, I am just going to tough it out. Know that if thousands of others went through this and were successful, you can do it too!

Angelizz10 I have never heard of anyones Dr saying they do not need a pre op diet. I am not doubting you just surprised . I worry about fat in your liver . And while folks going through the pre diet might think you are lucky. I am not so sure.

I know all Drs are different . My personal opinion is the pre op prepares you physically and mentally for the surgery and gives you a taste of things to come

For me the resolve to tough it out started at the pre.... I have read many post here where people in the pre diet are re-thinking the process . For me is was the first realization of my love affair with food and how I used it.

I think you have me confused with another banister, that perhaps I "quoted."??? I was put on Atkins for three weeks before surgery AND had monthly weigh ins for 8 months prior to that. I can't imagine having this surgery either without getting rid of as much liver fat as you can.

It's Peeba Girl you confused me, "Angelizz10", with. She was advised she didn't need any preop program to follow.

Welcome Kathy from Canada!

I did not have a liquid preop, just a hi Protein and veggie diet. The doctors do have diff preop diets, but I too can't imagine NO preop diet of some sort to shrink the liver.

I am lactose intolerant which is why I can't tolerate the Protein Shakes anymore. My doctor Has now put me on a diet of 2 ounces of lean Protein four times a day and vegetables and lots of fluids. I must submit that I'm feeling much better now I think most of my problems were with the lactose in the protein shakes.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
