Can You Skull/gulp Water?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I had a fill last Friday & now have 8ml in a 10ml band. Last week I could gulp a mouthful of water/liquid easily, now if I do I can feel it sitting there and sometimes see it again :-/. Is this normal or am I now too tight? My food intake has also drastically reduced which is ok, I am just worried about the Water thing. Thanks :)

well, gulping like you havent drank in weeks is not good (fill or not)

from what i understand, if you cant sip (or keep anything down) you could be too tight..

can you sip (like a martini drink) ok??

can you take a drink of something ok??

For the short amount of time I was in the green zone before I started having complications, I could only sip Water. It stayed down fine, but small sips only -- just like small bites!

Hi. Thanks for the replys. Yes I can sip Water very Small sips with breaks inbetween. I have however woken up with a burn in my throat, reflux I am assuming. I could have irritated my band by 1, drinking too fast & bringing it back up & 2 (stupid I know) doing it again later with OJ? Of course that is acidic. Never been at this point before. Do I wait to see if it settles? Do I go for an unfill? I have probably pushed too much food into myself today as well as I thought there is no way 1/3 cup of food could make me full. :-/. Such a huge learning curve.

Immediately after a fill be very strict with your sipping small amounts and chewing all food very well. If you can get food down without sliming, I would say you are still swollen from the fill. Slow down and give it time. Don't push food. If you need to call the Doc about an unfill.

Thanks everyone. My dr missed out the gulping message. I rang the office & they said I have most likely irritated my stomach but emptying it & then so stupidly (my words) filled it back up with acid - OJ. Good one!!! liquids & antacids for me until the swelling goes down. Lesson learned. X

My doctor after a fill only wants 24 hours of liquids as a big precaution. Then the next day start Stg 1 for a couple of days, then Stg 2 for the next 2 days. Then I'm ok to eat regularly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
