Hello! I am a fellow Okie! I live in OKC. My surgeon does lap bands only, no GBP. He told me that he would fill mexican bands back in 2004, you might ought to give him a call and see if he still will. His name is Svein Mattie Holsaeter with Surgical Specialists of Oklahoma (405) 232-4211. Also, I asked him how many he has done and he told me over 100 and that was back in Dec 2004. Good luck!

I called Dr. Holsaeter's office and he doesn't do fills for lapbands done in Mexico. As far as I know, the Oklahoma docs refuse to do fills, yet the insurance for employees of the state government won't pay for any bariatric surgery. This seems rather ironic, I think. But thanks for mentioning him.

I found out that there is also a doctor in Norman that will do a fill for about $178.00 each. Sorry, I don't know his name. There was someone from another board that found him. I know that there is a Bariatric Center there. As for the hunger issue you were worried about... If I start to feel hungry I just mix a scoop of Protein powder with Jello or something and eat it slowly. So far that has stopped the habitual hungry frenzy that I've been in for years. Good Luck! Let me know if you have any more questions. By the way, it's a good idea to have your "new food" ready for you when you get home. The Protein Powder and vitamin's I use have to be ordered from www.walgreens.com., you can't buy them at the store. Beneprotein is the Protein powder I use. optisource is the brand of high Protein Drink and chewable vitamin's. There are a lot of choices and everybody has their favorite.

I sure get carried away blah, blah, blah:)

I called around and found that Dr. Ronnie Keith (1-800-599-8010) in Norman will do fills for Mexican lapbands. I don't know the cost yet, but at least there is one doc in Oklahoma who will do the fills.

I posted this as a reply, but thought I might do it as a thread since there aren't many docs in Oklahoma who will do fills for Mexican lapbands. I found one in Norman, Dr. Ronnie Keith, who will do them. His phone number is 1-800-599-8010 and his website is www.owlo.com.

Hi Sharon! The Docs in Norman are Dr. Keith and Dr Nelson www.owlo.com I haven't called yet so if you do before me, please post if they will or willnot do fills for 1) Mexico patients 2) swedish band 3)cost?

I called Dr. Keith's office and he will do Mexican fills. I have to get all of their material before I will know the specifics, but they are sending me the packet so I'll know before long.

Did you find a doctor near Tahlequah that will do fills for you? I am having a lapband surgery in Mexico soon & would like more information on local doctors if you have already done the research.

Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
