This is my first post since returning to this site. I was banded July of 2011 and I have lost about 75 pounds, I feel great! I am trying to reach my goal weight of 160 at this time but a couple of months ago I had a prolapse which the way she explained it to me was very near a slip. So I had alot of my Fluid taken out. My restriction is very little at the moment. I go in next Friday to have the fluroscope done to see if my band is all good and I can have a fill....here's my question though, I don't have insurance so what happens if I do have a slip and it's not able to fix its self? Do I just wait to save up money or will most hospitals take payment plans for a removal? I know I sound stupid but I can stop freaking out over everything. I get hungry so much and I am able to eat way more than before. Any advice would be appreciated!

I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that it depends. If you're admitted on an emergency basis, requiring immediate removal of the band, then they have no choice but to remove it and bill you later. All hospitals have to do what's necessary to stabilize someone.

A good example: I had a hernia surgery. If I didn't have insurance and just went into the hospital wanting it fixed, they wouldn't have to fix it because my health wasn't in jeopardy. But, because the hernia became strangulated threatening my life if left unfixed, they would've had to fix it immediately and bill me later regardless of insurance.

I would hate to see you go through an emergency, that's for sure. Maybe even talk to your surgeon now as a "just in case" measure, so you know your options well in advance.

Be well and good luck.

I have no idea, but I bet this probably isn't the first time your doctor has dealt with someone without insurance. I hope it doesn't become an issue for you, though!

Thank yall so much for the advice! I am definitely going to be asking those questions next Friday! Im a worry wort :( lol

Lots of people have no idea what the band consists of so it's so nice for people to understand the worries that come along with it, I have found this site so helpful.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
