Hurricane Food

Recommended Posts

This stinks! On the Jersey Shore and can't eat anything! We have no electric due to Sandy! The only thing to eat is crap or fast food! Grateful my house is still here but frustrated by all this and can't eat either!! Ughhhh! Just needed to vent!

Where in Jersey are you? I'm from the north and also without power. I can't complain though when seeing how much loss my childhood towns suffered.

Didn't you buy food before the storm? I'm just asking. Why can't you find anything to eat even if it is fast food they do have lower calorie options.

Sorry about whats going on up there.

I'm from Florida and every year we have our hurricane survival kits. Including important paper work in plastic bags.

We always buy can goods, Beans you can eat cold, tuna, Peanut Butter. Also make sure we have propane for grill. After being without electricity for a week in the middle of August, we got a small a/c unit & generator. Always have full gas tanks and a couple 5 gal gas cans too.

The way its been the last couple years I think the north should start having a hurricane plan before you need it.

I wish you all the best!

I'm very grateful and we did prepare but you can't buy a lot of cold stuff because you will lose it all when ur power is out! I have canned goods but its almost gone. I have a family of six! All stores are out if everything! I wasn't complaining just venting! I'm trying on pb&j but I have a hard time with bread! Of course we have a ton of Halloween candy! Lol. Oh we'll-we will survive!

like the rest says......eat but eat ((smart/healthy)) as you can

and if you cant, you cant so do the best you can with what you have.

take care. that is what matters.

Hoping all turns out well, I just went through this in Va. on the Bay, drink your Protein Drinks and sugar free pops, pudding, and Jello. I also made a pot of veggie Soup no starch veggies. Glad the storm is gone from here still windy but after 5 days the sun did come out. Will be thinking of you and all in the path of Sandy. Good luck and best wishes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
