Lapband And Cancer

I'm not an alarmist and I've had my LapBand in since March, 2006. Recently I read a few articles about the possible connection between the LapBand and esophogeal cancer. It has to do with the restriction of the free flow of stomach acids. My sister told me yesterday that she knows of 2 people who developed this cancer and both had LapBands. Anyone heard similar stories? Thanks.

From what I understand, there is a link between esophageal cancer and reflux/stomach acid. The connection to the band comes into play because reflux is a common symptom of slips and bands too tight.

If your band isn't too tight and you're not having reflux, it shouldn't effect you. However, this is just one more reason being too tight isn't good and people need to stop walking around that way for months and months. That build up of stomach acid has a lot more risks than just heartburn.
