Is It Unusual Not To Have Anymore Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on September 24 and have been unable to loose anymore weight. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, eat less than 900 calories daily which is considerably less than I have ever eaten. I limit my carbs very much and no more weigh loss. What can I do? I also had one fill.

It's possible you're not eating enough calories. I would try increasing to at least 1000 a day and see if that helps. Also, keep in mind low carb doesn't work for everyone. I know it's the "in thing" right now, but it's definitely something to consider if you're not losing.

For the record, I eat 1000-1200 calories a day and I don't restrict carbs.

Finally, have you seen a nutritionist? If not, I would.

Best wishes.

Thanks so much. It is funny to hear I may not be eating enough. I did see the nutritionist but her directions were just information on the phases of diet etc. They did not talk about the stalling after surgery and what to do. No am finding there are a lot of things the left out.

I also think you are eating too little. I am going to be on 1000-1200 calories once I finish my pureed stage.

Also remember that you may be replacing fat with muscle. Keep doing what you are doing at the gym, try upping to at least 1000 calories and the weight should start coming off.

Also, are you losing inches? I found that when I used to stall (pre band) I actually lost inches instead and then after a while the weight would catch up.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I don't think you are eating enough. I just had my 6 week appt and first fill and told them I was eating approx 1000-1100, they told me to bump it up to 1200 and get more veggies in. I have been losing and have just been given the go ahead to get back to the gym.

I am going to try to boost it up a bit. I am so fearful of eating too much that I keep my intake low. Couple that with exercise and it is even lower. I also have a doctor's appointment on Thursday to discuss this.

Please understand I'm not being mean spirited. Your surgery was just over a month ago. It is not uncommon for Lap Band patients to have weight loss plateaus. 1 long time member of this site once said quote Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your rear end. This is a lifetime journey not a race. Again I'm not being mean I just think you need to understand this is going to take while.

I agree with the comments that you might not be eating enough. I posted recently regarding my weight loss plateau. I received the same advice, followed it, and guess what! Yup, the weight started moving again. In fact, I researched on my own a bit and found several sources that recommended one day of really amping up your caloric intake (in small amounts of course, since we are banded and don't want to eat too much at once) and then going back to the normal 1200 calories or so. I tried it and it worked for me. Tricked my body enough to get it moving again. I went for a fill today, and to my surprise, I had lost 5 pounds (after almost 5 weeks of staying stagnant). Good luck! Keep us posted!

Just for a little encouragement,.. I'm 6 weeks post op. I didnt lose a thing for 3 weeks! I was eating about 1100 calories and going to the gym at least 3 times a week (still am actually). This week I had a pleasant surprise... 4 lbs gone! :) Keep at it - your body is adjusting now. And stop looking at the scale every day! (ok - Im making an assumption here - becaue that is what i HAD been doing.) Good luck on your journey! :)

I am going to be the odd ball here just to give you another story. I am out 9 months. I started out with 3 small meals a day and a snack for about 700-800 calories. My NUT kept trying to get me to get off a "schedule" and only eat when I am hungry and eat what I enjoy. I really have not been hungry since being banded and have only had one fill. At the 5 month point I finally started eating only when hungry so most days I don't eat until noon and have my second meal at 6 or 7 pm and a very small snack before bed for about 500-600 calories. I work out 1-1/2 hours a day in the pool and stationary bike. I am down 125 pounds so far and have about 40 more to meet my doctor's goal. He wants me at 160 I was thinking 180 so we will see!

We are all different so I would really suggest having a really in depth conversation with your NUT. I do every 3 months and we change the types of food I eat each time too, adding or changing certain things. Like this visit she wants me eating more sweet potatos and Beans. Go figure...

Good luck, experiment and talk to your NUT to see what will work best for you. Every surgeon/NUT is different.

I did not take it in a bad way. I actually got a chuckle out of it. I definitely was not built in a day. I just worry as I am literally stuck at the same weight for weeks and am not feeling the fullness I expected. I am limiting myself but not because my band is assisting me.

What things do you eat? That is another thing I find is that I feel like I am eating the same things and get bored.

You are all so wonderful. Thanks for the suggestions. I am seeing my surgeon tomorrow and seeing if I can meet again with the nutritionist.

I never go below 1,000 calories, I eat every 3 hours, and make sure I get 60 grams of Protein a day. Use myfitnesspal to track what you eat. There were times I didn't lose and times I only lost 1lb. It's a process for sure and will take time. Hang in there.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
