Green Smoothies

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I have been pretty obsesed with green smoothies lately. I think they have actually helped me kickstart weight loss since I had slowed down a lot in the past 6 months and I give them a lot of credit for helping me to break the 100lb barrier. I had started a food journal and looked at the past several months of entries and realized that I avoid fresh veggies and fruit since they are hard for me to eat. I was looking online and came across several blogs talking about green smoothies and I have tried a couple recipies out.

This morning I had a smoothie with 1 cup baby spinach, 1 cup swis chard, 1 carrot, 1/2 a cucumber, 1/2 cup grapes, a couple grape tomatoes, 1 small orange, 1/2 an apple, 1 scoop of unflavored Protein Powder and a 1/8 cup pistachios. I throw it in my blender and liquify the heck out of it. It takes me most of the morning to drink it, but it is sweet and very refreshing. There are a million ways to make them. I made kale, grape, and apple popsicles and had a treat while doing homework the other day. Another plus is that I can still get my Protein, have raw food, and balance my calorie intake with whole, healthy food. I feel great.

I get a lot of my food ideas from LBT so I thought I would share something that I am excited about.

Ok i just put the recipie into my Lose It program and here is the nutritional info: 464 calories, 63 carbs, 10.4 fat and 34 grams if Protein (by my rough calculations) and that is with my Protein Powder that was 140 calories and mixed with Water, almond milk is probably better though (40 more calories with the one i use)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
