I have appointments for all the testing tomorrow. My prior appointment was cancelled due to snow and ice. I'm kinda of nervous. I have told two more people. One is a work friend that had bypass a few years ago. I know I can trust her and the other is a good friend of mine. So far three people know and the all are very supportive. I wish someone could go with me for the test to keep me company. They told me it would be about a all day thing.

I'm saving to have LBS and I don't plan on telling any one. We (my boyfriend and I ) will go away on vacation and ill have it done and come home. I'm still saving. I'm hoping by June I can have it done. We usually vacation 3 times a year so telling people that won't seem out of the ordinary. Also, I've been trying for YEARS to lose. I've lost 75 or so since may 2007.

I didn't tell a single soul other than my husband (who has also been sworn to secrecy) :). Hey, even with this band it isn't going to be easy and I'll happily accept all the accolades at my new found self control and restraint!

Me too I should have just kept it between me and my husband.

This is the only way to keep it a secret... only tell the person bring and picking you up from the hospital. Woman love to gossip and YES even your best friend will tell even after you say not too.

I ran into this the other day.... Went to a Insanity workout and one of the girl is the sister of my LB mentor. She and i were talking and i said how wonderful Paula looks and she (not knowing that i had LB too) said.... Yea but you know she only lost that weight because she had LB and didn't really work for it....... I about came un frecking glued... I just said... seems to me like she worked very hard for it... and walked away.

If someone ask... just say your watching what you eat and exercising.... which is totally true.

Morel to the story..... too keep it too your self... KEEP IT TOO YOUR SELF.

I don't plan on telling anyone other than my husband. Hopefully he'll be here to take me home from the hospital, if not I'll have to tell a local friend. I really don't want to tell my parents. Part of me wants to because I could use the support - but I know there is a very good chance I'd hear "Oh sweet heart" and be given a pathetic, heart broken speech from my parents about not needing it etc. So I'll wait until after I start losing to open up to them - or maybe even wait until the next time they see me (which very well may be 3 or 4 years from now).

Ok I feel the same way. I've heard people calling it the easy way out. But you still gotta eat right and exercise. It's not gonna be easy. Not sure who I'm gonna tell

Just sharing again as I posted earlier. I finally announced my lap band to everyone. Well I did two waves. I told a few people at work that I typically lunched with. All guys--and only one said something stupid like, "I wish I could have surgery and lose 20 lbs without doing anything." I very quickly put him in his place explaining that surgery is not "easy" and that he could get surgery if he wanted to, but that you have to be brave and mentally strong. Two traits I didn't think he had. OK ... I'm a little passive aggressive. I then announced it on my Facebook Page. And everyone was super supportive. I was really blown away by the positive comments. No one was negative. And I've had a lot of questions since then which has allowed me to share my story. Not encouraging anyone else to do what I did- just sharing that overall I've only had one person say anything stupid and everyone else has been supportive. So there is some good in my world. ;)

I felt the same way. I just told a good friend and they shook their head and said just diet and exercise. Pissed me off! I've done that and it worked but the weight came back. With the band I will diet and exercise but the weight won't come back! I will tell people when they notice the weight loss but I can see that explaining it constantly will be annoying. People need to understand that its not an easy way out! This is gonna be hard work and you are doing it for your health.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
