Traveling After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Ok everyone! so after 4 months of preparation and Dr. visits and the the untimely death of my brother in September and stressful 5lbs weight gain. I finally got my banding date, It's Nov 14. I am so happy and excited about it but at the same time I am wondering if I will be able to travel on the evening of the 15th? The man that murdered my brother will be going to court on the 16th and the entire family is expecting me to be there. My family members are unaware of my weight loss plan only my husband and long time friend knows. This will be the third court appearance (I missed the second one) as we find out what will happen to him at the same time we will be talking to the DA handling his case. Did I also say I am my families acting spokes person and all decisions are made as a whole with my mom, my 2 older sisters and myself plus my mom respects my decision making. What is this soon to be BANDSTER to do.

I an so sorry for your loss. Traveling the next day might be a bit much. Have you asked your doctor? You are going to be on pain meds, tired, etc...and sitting in a court room might be too much for you. Can you postpone your surgery a few days (I know you don't want to here that). Might be the best option.

Good luck to you and take care.

I had my surgery a week ago today. And the way I was feeling when I left the hospital, I would not have traveled. I was in pain, tired, throwing up and weak. It was even harder for me to sit up or get out of bed. I think you would might be in the same shape I was a week ago.

So sorry about your loss.

Everyone heals differently and has a different surgery experience, I has surgery at 8 was home by noon, slept the full night, was off pain killers the next day. No throwing up, was naturally lathargic from surgery, zero pain. I could sit, sleep on my side (had to wake up to roll over), walk for about 1/2hr at a time, but was pain free. Did need naps. I am only posting this because I don't want you to be frightened off by someone elses experience. I still wasn't ready to get in a car until Thurs (surgery was on a Monday). You have to do what is best for you and your family.

I'm really sorry for your loss!

My concern is how long will you be required to sit in one place? My surgeon requires me to walk around every 2 hrs to avoid blood clots. The chase of clots can last foe 3 mths. That's one reason traveling can be bad after surgery, but you can always get up and walk around. If you're stuck in a courtroom for hours that could be a problem.

Please check with your Dr. Your family has already lost one precious soul, they don't need to lose you too!

Ok thanks a lot guy I really appreciate the advise but I also forgot to say that although my surgery is on the 14th I have requested and got my days off which are from November 22 till the 30th I had ask for this time off before my surgery date and I was just going to call off work from the 14 till the 22nd so I guess I'm also playing with time and dates. Which is why I really need the 14th plus my surgeon only operates on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Plus I live in NY and will be taking the 6hr drive down on Thursday for a one hour drive to DC for court. What am I to do once again that's ALOT. I also do have a good pain level I went back to work 3 wks after a csection 11 years ago.

In our house we say You do what you gotta do... so I am sure you can do it my concern is that you will be on pain meds and not thinking clearly and you might miss something important . Also you will not be feeling that great, one person out of all the responders felt ok.

So sorry you are in this situation and we will be sending you lots of prayers.

I flew 4.5 hours the next day to get home and it wasn't the most comfy plane ride but it was manageable

I was really nauseous and in quite a bit of pain for the first 4 to 5 days. The risk of clots is real because I ended up with one.

Be careful...I only stayed 42 hours in hospital after c-section and said heck, I can handle this! Well, it's kicked my butt! I had some unusual post-op but I'm not sure I would want to drive that far so little time out of surgery.

Sorry you are having to go through this at the same time...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
