Do You Snack Between Meals?

Recommended Posts

For those of you on a 'regular' diet:

I'm about to graduate from mushies, but my caloric intake has been abysmal - 300-400 per day. I know I need to get 1000 calories per day to maximize weight loss. Do you get this in 3 regular meals? Do you have to snack to make it?

Thanks for your advice/input.

I try to eat 4-5 times a day. Just eat slowly and gradually increase non-mushy foods. Be careful about the use of the word snack... most of us just eat more meals over the course of the day. Use healthy foods with Protein.< /p>

My plan I set up with my nutritionist is to eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks. My meals are Breakfast, lunch, dinner and are around 300 calries each. My snacks fall between Breakfast and lunch and then lunch and dinner and I keep them about 150 calories.

Honestly, I eat when hungry, regardless of whether that's snacking between meals or skipping meals entirely if I'm not hungry.

I pretty much eat what I want so long as it allows me to stay within 1000-1200 calories a day. (and a cup or less of food per meal)

I find if I don't snack at the times I set for myself that I will find myself in a little while over hungry and then it's hard to get that starving hunger under control. Find what works for you and that keeps your calories low and your intake a cup or less at a time.

For me though if I wait until I say ok I am hungry it's bad. It's like my body now has 2 modes not hungry and starving- as long as I eat about 4-5 hours I am ok, if I say ok I'm not hungry at 5 hours I feel like crap and have a hard time eating like I am suppose to, but this is me.

I eat 3 meals a day (about 300 calories each) and 2 Snacks (approximately 100-150 calories each). If I don't, I find I get really hungry before bedtime & end up eating junky food to satisfy the hunger. I also find that if I skip meals or snacks, my band seems to tighten and I have trouble when I finally do eat again. I aim for 1200 calories a day.

If you are having trouble reaching your caloric goal, have a high Protein Shake for Breakfast or as a snack - approx. 250 calories.

When you get the hang of things, you won't have any trouble eating 1000-1200 calories a day. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
