5 Days Post Op...still Nauseous

Recommended Posts

I was banded 5 days ago and I am feeling worse. I am still on liquids and haven't strayed a bit from that. But each time I have a Protein Drink, I feel sick. I haven't thrown up...thank goodness. I also have a horrible pain on the left side, sometimes almost doubled over. I have drank a lot of Water and tried to walk. I had to lay in bed all day yesterday because it hurt so bad. Anyone else have this?

well, i am sorry you are feeling poorly and i hope you get to feeling better.

your stomach/insides is still very swollen still so you must sip. not drink.

i found out after my surgery that drinking too quickly (or too fast) or too much made me sick to my stomach. are you sipping (baby sips) as you stated you drank alot of Water?

not sure of the pain you describe. if its that bad and you are doubling over, please call the dr and ask them as they'd know what to advise.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I am am drinking rather than sipping :(. The Dr told me that it is common to have pain on my left side because that is where the port is and my body has to do the most adjusting there. Should I just be sticking to broth or is Protein Drinks ok too?

You definitely need to continue to have your Protein, because that's what you body needs to continue to heal post op.

I used broth when I experienced cravings for salt during my liquid diet both pre op and post op. Otherwise, I sipped Water and had SF popsicles, along with the 4 Protein shakes every day recommended by my surgeon for the Protein and Calcium.

Definitely sip your liquids slowly, and be certain that you are getting enough fluids to stay properly hydrated. Nausea can be a symptom of dehydration.

I hope you feel better fast!

Was banded on the 23rd. I too, have been nauseated, with a lot of stomach churning after every sip of anything. Doc office this morning advised me to try some gas-x strips. I have done 2 and so far so good. Sipping Vitamin Water zero and Protein Shakes, seems to have helped.

good luck !

becareful not to get constipated. I had that problem after surgery and it was horrible side pain. After 5 days i was sipping alot of Water and eating some saltine crackers. but stuck to liquid items other than crackers. walking really does help. the more the better. Good luck. I was banned August 20 and am down 38 lbs

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
