When the band is at it's best

Hi

I will try to explain this the best way I can.

When you have had the perfect fill, will the qty of food consumed be simular amounts to the gbp people?:eek:

It all depends. My sister had gbp 3 years ago. I was banded 10 months ago. I have a pretty close to perfect fill (I think) right now. She eats alot more than I do. GBP people eat small quanitity at first but that changes over time and they stretch out their new stomach. We can always get fills, tighten out band.

I don't even put the two in the same category. They are both tools, etc. But the gbp is a fast method of malnutrition to (in my mind) save the lives of those who need to lose as quick as possible - for what ever reason. The band is a tool for those who want to lose but are willing to adjust slowly, lose slower, and have a tool to use for the rest of their lives - keeping them more in control. Hope this helps. if a gbp patient can stretch there pouch, surely a lapband pt can also. the fact that the band is adjustable means it can constrict the stoma, not change its place on the stomach. so if over time, a bandster stretches there pouch, the only thing a fill will do is slow the rate of pouch emptying. i had rny gbp and have a silastic ring on the bottom of my pouch to always keep my stoma the correct size.

I'm not sure what the GPers are eating, and I'm not sure about pouch-stretching.

But my band is doing it's job when I can comfortably eat 1200 calories a day and not feel deprived AT ALL. On occasion, I'll get out my Richard Simmons food Mover and start moving my food windows. It helps me stay on track with good choices and a well-balanced diet. When I do that, I am totally satisifed. Even on the Blast-Off week, which is 1000 calories, I'm pretty sure. If I'm eating more calories than that, I'm not getting my fruits and veggies in, for sure, and not eating enough Protein, so I'm filling in hunger slots with junk. And not losing. My fault, not my band's.

My band is at it's best when I eat well. I'm at my best when my band keeps me satisfied, which wasn't possible before. Not for weeks and months on end, anyway.

You know, that is a very good question. I don't know the answer, I don't even know where to go to find the answer to that question.

Hey Scuuder, if you eat too much, what happens? I know that bandsters will PB if they eat too much, more than they can handle. I'm talking within a time frame of the standard 20-30 minute bandster meal time frame. (I don't know if by-pass folks have a time limit they are recommended? )

we are told to eat slowly and take 15 minutes with our meal. eating 3 ounces over 15 minutes is difficult, but if we eat too fast, to much, or don't chew well you either feel unfortable for a half hour or so, or you vomit.

My best friend is RNY and we do not eat the same amounts (we had surgeries 1 week apart). According the the nutritionist recommendations, she should be eating a total of 3-4 oz. per meal and mine is 6-8 oz. per meal. My dr also recommends a protein-type snack 1-2x/day.

I'm also due for a fill (on 4/24), so I can eat a bit more than that before I get my "full" signal. :hungry:

I was banded on 10/27/05. I currently have a total of 2cc filled. After my last fill I could not eat anything without throwing up. Went back to my doctor and he took .2cc out. I am still having difficulty eating any meats even some fish is hard to get down, if it is dry. I tried a hamburger with 1/2 a bun today and got three bites down before throwing up. Is this normal? I'm almost six months out and still cannot eat any meat. Anyone else having this problem?

I haven't had a fill yet so I don't really know for sure what the problem is, but from reading lots of other posts here on LBT it sounds like you need to have a little more of your fill taken out. Good luck.

i had rny not lapband, but from what i have read bread, rice, etc is not tolerated for many WLS patients, have you tried just the hamburger and no bun.

refined carbs are the #1 thing you can eat to slow weightloss.

also, make sure you chew very well. think of your mouth as a food processor, nothing to leave your mouth before it is pureed.

you don't want to be sick, of course, but be grateful for the restriction

Well, first of all the Hamburger/Bun might be something you will NEVER be able to eat again! You might try soft Proteins.....fish....very tender and marinated steak....tiny tiny bites..........chicken salad....tuna salad .... If none of these work either - then you might still be too full as far a your fill goes...........I was filled at 1.8 once and 1.9 once and developed acid reflux problems and now am at 1.0 cc; which might not be enough....but doctor won't fill anymore until I lose 20 lbs..........soooooooo have to use a little will power along with band I guess.

Most people prefer to be a little underfilled vs over filled...need to get solid food down somehow w/o pain.
