I'd bring a robe for sure. Those hospital gowns don't cover your butt worth anything and they'll want you up and walking very soon after surgery. The robe will keep you from giving everyone a free show ;)

A house dress or loose sweat pants to come home in. Nothing tight around the waist.

I'd have a heating pad at home for any gas pain. Be sure you have what you need for your post op liquid diet already bought and at home, too.

Chapstick (TY Sojo) a must have.

Small pillow for ride home, so seatbelt won't rub

I wish I would have had small disposable drinking cups.

I had a hard time drinking too much at once and if it was in a little 3oz cup. I would have had better control.

Chapstick is my staple item for the hospital. You'd be surprised how dry your lips get. Also, if you are staying the night don't bother trying to bring a magazine or anything to read.. you won't use it.

For home, make sure you have tried out some Protein drinks beforehand so you find one(s) you like, have other liquids and Soups, sugar free Jello, yogurt, at home and a heating pad.

Also, after a couple weeks my stitches and incisions itched like crazy. I got hydrocortisone spray from Walgreens that helped a lot.

Good luck!

Bring a skinny liver, and a good attitude, you are going on the journey that will change your life. You will not wake up skinny but you will be on your way. Write down all the reasons you are doing this in a journal just for your eyes and be really really honest. You will need this when the tough times come and come they will, days when you just want to give up then you can read it and check off the things you have accomplished.

Good Luck and you will need all the things the others suggested but for the long run you will need what I told you even if you forget something they said....

Chapstick...best thing ever. I also brought a house coat robe thing to wear while walking the halls at night. I also brought my own pillow. I wish I would have had my computer instead of my phone to play.

On the way home I took a very big and comfy pair of pants. Also a loose sports bra helped too

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
