I did spend one night in the hospital; but I was very aware of everything about 2 hours after surgery. I walked around the hospital several times without assistant, went the bathroom with no help, etc.

I was pretty groggy afterwards. I also stayed overnight, but by the time I got into my room, it was about 4 pm and I was pretty out of it. Needed to ask for assistance to go potty every couple hrs tho, cuz I had compression stockings on and needed help hooking back up to them. I probably could have done it myself tho, if it wasn't for the gadget. Got morphine via iv every 4-6 hrs, I think. Walked the hallway that night with the nurse. Went home by 11 am the next day, after getting my barium swallow test done.

I was awake enough to say was my liver skinny and listen to the Dr . laugh yes, I stayed overnight slept all day probably meds . Went to a motel next day slept a lot. Came home on second day after and did not enjoy the 70 mile ride. Wore my pj's for 5 days and slept a lot because of meds again. Needed meds for the Gas pain which no one warned me about thought I was going to die not really but it did hurt.

I am retired so I could do this no 3 boys tearing around the house anymore and besides it was a cold spell here in Fl so everyone hibernates when it goes to low 60's.

I was coherent right when I woke up in recovery. My first words were " please take the pillow from behind my head". Stayed over night, no sleep b/c of noise. Came home and died in my bed. After a 2hr nap I was bloated but fine.

I was very alert and coherent immediately after surgery. In fact, I out-walked my nurse in the hallway a few times. I think she was pissed at me. I got home and rested that night with heating pad in case of gas spells. I drove my car the next morning and went and got a cup of coffee. Next day I attended a weight reduction seminar at my local hospital. Everybody handles the surgery differently.

Best wishes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
