I think the big problem is people say "a pound a fat is the same as a pound of muscle". This is very true, but by volume there is a big difference because muscle is much more dense than fat. So when comparing them it shouldn't be by weight but by volume.

In other words, if you have a cup of muscle it will weigh more than a cup of fat.

This is why when you build muscle, your weight loss will temporarily stall, possibly even increase. But, your inches will decrease.

Muscle DOES weigh more than fat when you are considering volume- which is what we're comparing. Not pound vs. pound.

CG what a girl , you are so right a lb. is a lb. I guess 1 lb of muscle just looks so much better then 1 lb of FAT. Just like tan fat looks better then white fat think about it.

Fat knees well I just looked and one day they were gone, I do do Water areboics I don't like to sweat ya know... Southern women glow......

Crap, from the north we Sweat! No glow, no glistening. But thank God for the tanning season. Won't go to electric beach though, too afraid of fake bake tans.

Yes I have lost 10 inches on my hips and 4 on the thighs and I am very excited about that, but of course the dilemma with the thighs is that I still have to wear alot of the same pants from before I lost 75lbs. and they are extremely big in the waist cause I have this pear shape. I try to wear dresses all the time, but with the cold weather coming, pants are going to be needed at some point. I am happy for my progress, but I so HATE my thighs!!

. I can relate totally. When I started this journey my measurements were 44/42/77. Size 4x on the bottom.

I am now 34/28/37. Size medium or 8/10 on bottom now. Evidentially I am not as much of a pear as I thought I was. But I still have fat thighs...actually now it's just flabby skin, knees and ankles. It's horrible to have come this way and still deal with it... But I am going to make a conscience effort to exercise and see if that will tighten it up a bit. You are exercising during your journey which I did not so I bet you will not have all the flab.

Keep doing what you are doing!

I live in a warm climate so winters weren't an issue but I did where lots of leggings and tunics last winter which a forgiving to heavy bottom gals.

OMG....I never thought anyone would have as wide hips as me and had the lap band. Now you have totally inspired me to keep doing what I am doing. Thanks for sharing your story!! It doesn't get too cold here in GA either, but I am anemic, so I always feel cold, and like to wear pants most time in the winter.

THANKS AGAIN

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
