I am 5 weeks post-op and had my first fill 10/25. Doc told me to stay on liquids through the weekend and then pick up where I left off. According to the papers I have, I have one more week of puree'd foods. My question is what harm is there in beginning to eat now. I feel good and am just curious what kind of damage could occur if one chews thoroughly, takes small bites and eats the right foods getting in all necessary Protein. Has anyone sped up the process and did not regret it?

A lot can go wrong. There is a reason that your doctor gave you orders to follow, he is the professional that you trusted to cut up your body. Why would you even consider not following his orders?

If you are having a hard time following your doctors orders call you doctor and tell him, he may change them or he may explain why he wants you to follow them.

Sorry if you don't like my answer but you asked. Good luck to you.

I would follow his orders. Every physican is so different, there are many of us who were eating solids by the time we had our first fill. The only thing you risk by speeding up the process is your band. If you are really hungry and want to eat something besides mushy food, call the office and ask permission. I know that may sound silly, like you said, you feel fine. Just remember why we are all here, we never followed rules very well, because honestly if you did it who would know but you!

I appreciate your answers! I still don't have a clear picture of what could wrong. What I see is that every physician has a different philosophy. Mine takes 8 weeks before solids are introduced, whereas others have solids introduced earlier. That is why I'm trying to find out what could go wrong. I really do appreciate your responses, but so far, no one has told me anything I didn't already know. If you have first hand knowledge of what could wrong, please share it with me!

Well I have to say you need to follow your doctors order. If you want to move ahead of their schedule speak to them about that. To give you a heads up when I asked if I could move to soft mushies 3 days early from full liquids I was told "Absolutely NOT!" That said at week five I was on solids. In general the reason we have a graduated diet liquids to solids is because they have sewn the stomach and the band in order to keep it in place. When the stomach grinds to digest foods; the more solid the more grinding. The grinding can break the stiches.

After all fills the stomach is a bit tramatized. I just had my first fill in about 11 months and had to do 24 hours liquids followed by 24 hr. mushies and boy did that suck. That said however I am down 2 pounds since Friday! Oh and I hosted a dinner party on Friday night. Really enjoyed that smooth Tomato Soup and Protein shake while everyone else had chili and nachos!

I would stick closely to your dr.s orders. He is doing it for a reason. Everyones body reacts differently to the band. In order to get good results with no pain or damage to the band I would do exactly what he says.

You have the rest of your life to eat real foods. Dont be in a hurry to get there.

well more than likely, nothing will go wrong...

but what if something does??

is it worth it?

you spent all the time, money, energy...for what??

to make yourself well.

its a personal choice.

you want to eat, eat.

dont overthink it.

just do what you know is right.

your a grown adult.

to me, if you pondered this enough to ask if its ok,

you know its not..

ps--call ask your dr directly and ask him your question. you'd probably get an answer you want

Wow- 8 weeks until solids is a really long time. I spent one week on full liquids, one week on mushies then solids. I had no problems. However, I agree with others who are saying to call and check with your doctor before advancing your diet. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
