Never Doing That Again!

Recommended Posts

Omg! Felt the pain of eating too fast and not chewing tonight! Waited too long to eat. Sat at the table and was eating chicken while listening to my kids when all if the sudden.... THE PAIN.

I remembered what I read here about not drinking but just walking around . I took deep breaths, was able to burp up some air and it passed within 5-10 min but omg. Never again!!

Consider that a hello from your band. It wanted you to know it was there. Glad you are ok. ;)

Glad it passed, I had a similar episode prior to my first fill but honestly I really did not realize how the band worked until after my first fill. I thought I was eating slow and chewing well but the band showed me differently after my first fill. So work on eating slow and chewing, it is key to not having stuck episodes. Two years and I think I have finally learned.

Wow, your on real food already? I will be starting mushy foods in 2 weeks, then probably real food 2 weeks after that. Glad it only lasted 5-10 min for you. I am so scared of that happening to me when I start to eat that I will probably be so so slow eating, LOL thanks for the input!

I've been on soft food since last Sunday. The good news is that soft food helps with the hunger.

I have been really good about eating slow but good god it's like waves of burning and pressure in my chest.

Oh wow, from soft foods? I have had Soup and Protein Drinks and I drink it so slow because I don't want to get any pain. Still pretty sore especially when I get up from sitting or laying down. What about you?

I have been putting heat on my stomach it helps a little. Just stated to pass some of this gas. Everyone is sleeping here and I am sitting in my chair wide awake. Had my surgery and really don't feel up to eating. I think it's b/c of all the pressure.

This is actually good to know in terms of the adjustment that we will have to make after the first fill. This is why it is so important to really practice good habits to chew your food slow and take small bites now.

Thanks for sharing this little nugget and insight as we will all benefit ! You are always very poignant in your posts I've noticed. Thanks Again !

Blessings,

MD

Make sure you eat with a small baby spoon. Which is the amount you should chew at a time. Chew 15 to 30 times before swallowing.

Make sure you're only consuming 2 ounces of liquid for 30 minutes. I am having some pain while I am trying to get up or lay down but once I'm in my spot I use a heating pad to help with the pain.

Mrs Britt, 2 oz for 30 min? I wish they gave me better post op instructions. I have to see what my other papers say. Thank You though. I will definitely start doing that. How do you feel hon?

I am sure it was an experience but even with no fill, you don't normally live with a band on do there will be some resistance, just not as much as when you get your fill. Welcome to the other side of band life. We are all learning as we go along but it is a great journey with all our new friends on Lap band talk.

PLEASE DON'T TAKE ME THERE! Been WIDE open since 9/7/12, the day I was banded, and still no fill. Being disciplined is not why I got banded. Eat slow, don't drink while you eat, have small portions, no more soda...all well and good with some damn help called restriction. lmao Sorry, I just had a moment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
