Surgery is scheduled for 11/1. I received my lab results and it said normal for surgery but on the results it says please provide your PCP a copy for review and explanation. Did anyone have to provide this to your PCP before surgery can be done? I'm having my surgery at True Results houston TX

My take on that is that True Results is essentially like a "specialist" and they're referring you back to your PCP if you have any questions or need an explanation of your lab results. I didn't go through True Results, but my WLS program did send a copy to my PCP and she called me to explain some of the levels that were off (higher cholesterol, very low Vit D). Since they aren't your regular physician, they probably don't want to have to follow up with you.

I believe that it is always a good idea to keep your PCP in the "information loop".

Case in point: when I was hospitalized for pain of an unknown origin by my bariatric surgeon, he attributed my pain to a sore muscle. I knew that was not the cause, and told him so. The hospital asked me to follow up post discharge with my PCP who after seeing my lab results immediately identified "red flags" and diagnosed me with pancreatitis, a symptom of problems with my gall bladder, which was removed a month later.

I trust my internal medicine PCP's medical opinion implicitly; no so with my surgeon...just my experiences. Other's mileage may vary...

I went through True Results in Austin. What the others stated is correct. TR just want your PCP to be in the loop.

It was my understanding that the primary care physician always has to give clearance to the surgeon for the surgery since the PCP has knowledge of your other health issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
