Almost 2 Years After My Surgery, I Have A Very Sad History To Tell

Recommended Posts

2 years after my surgery, I still vomiting almost every day, and I did not loose any pounds. In June I tried to talk with my doctor and, the advice he gave to me was to take off "my band", he did not believe when I said that I am not a eating person, I already tried to have my 4 meals, but I could not do it, and when I have my dinner, almost every day I throw up. Now I am very depressed, I don't have any energy, I just think this surgery did not work for me, I know I have a very slow metabolism, I have hypothyroidism and he did not want to fill my band because I still vomit. And I have been thinking of another surgery. I would like to know if anyone has been going through this...

Hi Karewpah, I have been vomiting almost every time I eat. Any kind of food... Only shakes go down. One bite and I'm full and then I throw up. And what is more depressed is that I don't loose any pound . When I think all the stress I went throw, I just feel hopeless.

How tight is your band. If you are really tight I would STRONGLY suggest getting an unfill. Many people don't lose weight with a really tight band. I don't know why.... I am guessing because they are consuming too many liquid calories. But... you need to be able to eat solids and keep them down to be healthy. I would start with having your Dr. take some Fluid out of your band so you can eat solid foods. Aand maybe do some research on how the band works as far as being able to eat solids. I don't know your situation... but these are my thoughts. You must be misserable, I hope you can turn it around. Best of Luck!

I agree with TKW. Try having a bit of an unfill. It does sound like you are too tightened just causing constant irritation of the band. You might be surprised that you'll be able to eat more than shakes and actually lose weight

I have 4 years out and still vomit atleast once a week. Complained to my doctor and he "unfilled" me. Have been "unfilled" for 2 years. One bite of food and I vomit for hours. Sometimes it even happens when I just drink something. My Doctor says it's stress, or I eat to fast( one bite really?) There are times I'm hungery but have been vomiting so I'm scared to eat. Exercise almost everyday and when I can I eat pretty good. Stil no major weight loss. I think of the money spent and time devoted and think that I made a mistake.

For those vomiting...

-Has your doctor checked you for a slip?

Vomiting is NEVER normal with the band, in fact it can and does lead to slips and other complications. If you're vomiting regularly then something is very wrong and it's imperative you get the root of the problem immediately.

As far as too big of bites causing vomiting, yes, it can. This is why many nutritionists and doctors say our bites should be no bigger than your fingernail.

Best wishes.

Mell-

I had the SAME issue- I thought it was also a failed band.. Just my luck puking any possible chance i had.. I ate anything- not just certain foods either.. And I'm also really not an "eater". Not losing any weight - but gaining like how is this possible? I did this for a year but then suddenly got sooo sick and I knew it was my

Band.. Had to go to the ER my stomach felt soo tight ,couldn't even hold down water.. My band had slipped.. My stomach was bulging above my band causin all these health issues.. Depression .. Etc. so I def hear what you're goin thru.. Mind u I don't have insurance and the dr actually emptied my band hoping my stomach would "fall back through the band" I've been on the liquid/purée stage for 3 weeks.. 18 lbs down and finally feeling "normal" and happy to have this darn band thAt made the last year of my life a living hell. So to me I'd attempt to get a second opinion and see if possibly your situation is similar to mine. Best of luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
