Scared Dont Know What To Expect..

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone :)

I register on this site in 2007 and is 2012 and I still haven't gotten band.. No one to blame but me I keeped telling myself I can do it without surgery... well guess what I can't I have try every thing, diets, gym and this pass 2 months have been the worst for me none of my winter clothes fit.. I think this is the biggest I have been I feel like I can loss the weight. So I have been preparing myself for what kind of weight loss surgery I want and I have decided to get band.. I will be talking to my doctor soon about this (he has refer me twice now and I always say no I can do it on my own) I have finally hit rock bottom and I need help..

I have questions I keep seen videos of ppl who have had surgery but I have read a lot of great stories here.. can so one please tell me how they felt after the surgery? Where they able to continue their live like they always did (except for the eating of course). Does any one regret this a surgery? I know is a lot of questions but i need to ask people that have had the surgery.. All my friends are on the small side and dont have and idea of how I feel when I say OMG I feel so fat they be like no u look good just loss a little weight I love them for accepting me the way I am but Im not happy with who I am at the moment..

please answer my questions or tell me what u think I should know before I get the surgery..

Thank you

Justme

I've only been banded for 10 days so I don't have all your answers. I do know that learning everything you can possibly know about LBS will help you a lot. This is a good forum to learn from the pros & you can also learn from those having a hard time.

I was at my post op appt today and my Dr was so pleased with me. We sat and talked and he said "sounds like you have studied up on this". I said " yep, everyday for 7mths". I told him I didn't plan on wasting his time or mine.

You can do this if you want it bad enough! Get some books, hang out here!

i am 21 days post op,and back when i was doing my research,i found this site...everyone on it is great at answering questions and very supportive, which is something you need after wls, when noone else understands what you are going through!!!

as for how you feel after surgery, everyone is different...the 1st 3 days,i dont think i got off the couch at all, except to pee! after that,i started walking around my house a little bit everyday, and everyday i started to feel a little bit better...i went back to work on the 11th day post op,and i was fine, very very tired, but otherwise fine,no pain or anything, but like i said, everyone is different.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
