Going Backwards

Recommended Posts

Hi Bandsters~ do you ever get the feeling that you're going backwards with weight loss?. I know that for us women, we retain Fluid from everything that we eat. I watch my salt intake as well as my carbs/sugars. Not sure what's going on. Are there any other bandster that have experienced this problem? If so any suggestions would help.

Weight fluctuates due to many things, which was one of the hardest things for me to learn. But, what they tell you as you prepared to be banded is so true. DRINK, DRINK, DRINK! I use to think the more I drank the more I'd retain, but that isn't true. The Water helps flush your system. Following rules of portion sizes, for me it's all about calorie counts. I count my calories on myfitnesspal to keep be for going over 1200- since the start of that the weight loss has been very steady, maybe a few days of plateau, but then it drops again.

I order to be succesful I think each one of us has to try different methods- wheater it's calorie counting, or measing out one cup of food, ect. We have to figure out what works for us. I don't loose if I go under 900 calories a day, my body thinks it's starving- but that might not be the same for you. So I encourage you to journal and see what works for you and stick to that.

Everynow and then I'll shoot up 3 or 4 pounds. I know that I haven't over eaten enough to do that anyway. I ate Chinese food the other night... and not much. maybe 3/4 cup. sure enough the next morning I was up 3 pounds. It was gone in a day or two.

I count calories - cuz seriously, you eat more than you think if you are not logging everything. It really helps to see what you are poking in you mouth. Makes you think twice, that's for sure.

I've wondered that. I haven't had my period in over a year but ya, I sort of noticed once a month i shoot up a few pounds.

Thanks guys, I am logging everything that I eat, I joined MFP a few months ago, I also keep a food journal for my monthly appt. with my lapband surgeon. and I never go over my 1200 calorie intake, I also walk every day any where from 15 --60 min each day. and I do the ski machine for no less than 30 3 x a week.. Not sure what's going on. hopefully it won't last much longer. Thanks again for your input.

Yeah, I haven't has my TOM since January, but I can tell my hormones are buzzing cuz my face breaks out.

I have a dumb question for you. Two actually...

Can you gain Water weight each month, even though you're peri-menopausal?

If I stay with my food program during this time, and not gain actual weight, will I lose pounds after that TOM?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
