question: My surgeon didn't give me any specific instructions (yet...)... for the diet for 2 weeks before surgery - but I plan on keeping cal. intake at 800 and low to no fat. What did your surgeon instruct for diet prior to surgery to shrink the liver the best?

I'm schl'd for Nov 9th so 2 weeks before isn't until Friday and I'll be talking to him and the hosp coordinator, but I'm curious what diet the rest of you followed prior to surgery?

Thanks so much :)

My surgeon has everyone do Bariatric Advantage shakes only for 2 weeks. 4 to 5 shakes a day, and can have sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello, and chicken broth. I have only had 4 shakes in the last 2 days and a few popsicles. It is just really hard for me to down these, but I am trying my best. :)

Good luck!!! You are just a few days after me!~

It's hard to down the shakes? Because? I'm using Costco's premier shakes, they are pretty good, very satisfying. You can be my band buddy since our days are so close :)

well, i would make a call to your dr and ask (if they want you to do a diet of any sorts). that way you will know and they can advise you either way. congrats on your upcoming surgery :)

It is amazing the different pre-op diet variations, I think it just depends on each facility and doctor.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
