Hi,

I did weight watchers a while back without much success. I think I just wasn't ready. I am thinking of joining. I think the structure and the almost theraputic meetings will be good for me. I know the diet isn't extremely band friendly- seems like a lot of carbs. Do you think it makes sense to join, go to the meetings, but tweek the diet a little? I may have the wrong impression about the diet- it's been a long time and I don't really remember the details. Just know you count points and points of food is based on fat, Fiber and cals (i think). Would love to hear from anybody who has or is doing the program. I have heard they are not very wls friendly, so I doubt I will bring that up at a meeting. Thanks!

There is a weight watchers group here. Check them out. Do a search for WW.

I dont belong to WW but I have a banded friend that did it and was very successful.

Good luck.

be very careful with their boxed Entrees they are high in salt and rice and carbohydrates wich is not band friendly. If you can cook some of the recaipes in the cook books to suit your band by leaving out the rice you should be fine. Just remember to weigh your portions as some servings can be more hten a lapband portion. Let me know how you do.

I'd save my money and meet with a Bariatric nutritionist/ dietician instead. They can outline what you need to do in just a few meetings to get you on the right track.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
