In Need Of Someone To Help Me Through This!

Recommended Posts

I love my dear husband, but he's not the understanding/sensitive type. He's also never been a chubby kid. He supports my decision but doesn't really understand my need to constantly research or talk about it. What he doesn't know, I'M FREAKING OUT!

I have the same kind of husband. That's why I love everyone here so much. They are my biggest cheerleaders!

I've been going through this process for 7mths and have spent almost everyday here. While my hub watches football, military channel, pawn stars and crap, I sit with him with my Droid and spend time with my bff's here. Every once in awhile I'll show him a before/after pix of an awesome loser or read something funny. He's really interested in the talk about "improved sexual desire after weight loss". Go figure!

I do have my mom, sister & 2 grown daughters close by for support, but right here is my main, can't live without support. Oh, I go to a monthly support group too, but I learn more here.

As long as your hub doesn't hinder you, that's ok. Just tell him like I told mine, I have to learn all I can to succeed and that's what LBT.com is all about.

Best wishes to you and welcome to our wonderful club!

PS. We all freak out at some point. This is a life changing time. Do your research, learn everything you can. You'll do just fine! I was banded Oct 15 myself and I'm very excited being on the other side finally.

Knowledge is power!

Guys don't get freaking out, unless they get a cold.j/s

Its so true! They are hardcore babies when it comes to even just the sniffles! My husband is trying to understand and be there... he just keeps saying that if its what I want then go for it but he still thinks working out nonstop daily is what I need. He laughed so hard when I asked him to do the pre-op diet with me after I get a date set! Lbt.com is teaching me so much, some freaks me out, but the options and possibilities for after the healing process is amazing! Back like 10yrs, 5 miscarriages, and a brutal divorce, I was like a size 5... now I'm in a 20 and it freaks me out! I'm 5'4 and have never been 235-240 before, and I'm stuck! I don't feel like I need to lose it all... I just want to not be ashamed of myself or embarrassed when I go shopping. I love going through everyones stories, reading their questions, especially seeing the b&a pics... LBT.com has made me feel not so alone.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
