hi everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jean. I was recently banded (2/21/04) in Monterrey Mexico. Dr. Arturo Rodrigez is my doctor. He was really wonderful. The experience was, well sort of perfect. No complications other than being very uncomfortable from the gas.

Anyway, I've been reading the messages posted and am really glad to have found such a supportive forum. I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning as much as I can from everyone's persepectives.

cheers

j

Hi J!

Welcome! I'm pretty new here myself; in fact I have my first consultation w/ my surgeon this afternoon so I am pretty excited!

I'm glad everything went went for you in Mexico! I have found this board to be a wealth of information and I'm sure you will, too!

Best of luck to you!

Debra

Hi Jean, welcome! And congratulations on your good banding experience. Be sure to come back and let us know how you're doing. Do you have a fill doctor set up locally or are you planning to go back to Mexico for fills?

Hi there Jean :D

My daughter and I had our surgeries the day before you did with Dr. Rodriguez. I believe, if I'm not mistaken, Diana was on the phone talking with you from my hotel room. I remember the name Jean and she was there for surgery so I am assuming it was you. Where do you live? Do you live in Texas and if so, where? I live in Mcallen. I guess we'll be going over there for a fill at about the same time too. How are you doing so far? We are both healing wonderfully. Heather moreso than me but then she's younger...hell isn't everybody younger than me LOL

I'm not real positive what I weighed the day of the surgery but I am pretty close to sure and if I'm right, I've lost right at 15 lbs.

Keep in touch and let me know how things are going.

Linda

Thanks everyone for your warm supportive replies. This board has become so important for me to hear other voices about this experience.

Debra,

I wanted to e-mail you direct but couldn't find an address for you. I'm from Michigan too. I live in Dearborn and am intreasted in finding a support group near by. Are you connected anywhere? well write me and we can connect if you like.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
