One bad week...

Recommended Posts

MsJoy and I were awakened at 5:00 am on Monday morning. My sister was screaming something at my wife and Joy was saying, I'll be right there. When I quized her about what was going on and where was Vickie, she didn't really have any answers. She was going to drive around until she found where she was. She was at the hospital and her husband had just died from a massive heart attack. Dennis was 39. We started making all the arrangements the next day.

Tuesday evening, we were at Vickie's house around 10:30 pm, tired and starting to wind down when there was a phone call. The caller told my sister that our mom was being loaded into the ambulance right that minute and would be heading to the hospital. Vickie said, "My mom?" At the ER we found out, after several hours and tests, that she had a "bug" and diverticulitis (sp). They put her in the hospital. We had the funeral on Thursday. Mom was released from the hospital today, Friday. She missed her son-in-laws funeral, but the church made a video tape and she will get to see that. Right before mom got out, Vickie discovered that she has the "bug" and lost all of her lunch (first real meal in about 4 days).

This week has really kind of sucked...

Randy & Joy, I'm so very sorry about your BIL. What a shock that must have been for you all! Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. And I hope that nasty bug doesn't stay around long. :)

Aw Randy - that really does suck.

Hugs to both of you. I guess the only good thing is that the week is over - and you can move on with healing and grieving.

My heart breaks for you.

Wow! I'm so sorry about your bad week. It just seems almost impossible for someone to die at 39 from a heart attack but I've hard of it more and more. I hope your mom gets better and your sister is doing ok... I know she has a long road, my best friend was a widow at 35 but she's pulling though strong as ever.

I don't know you well yet but you & your family will be in my prayers.

My heart goes out to your family, Randy, I'm so sorry! :) Life has a way of doing this to us sometimes, and it is so hard. Big hugs to all of you and I hope your mom feels much better very soon.

Thank you, everyone. As with any death, time will dull the pain and temper our memories. Mom is home, sleeping in her own bed tonight. Two of her sisters were in for the funeral and they stayed an extra night to keep her company.

I'm so sorry to hear that, you're in our

It seems so much harder when it's someone too young

Our son's best friend died this time last year at the age of 17 of a heart attack :cry so we know how you are feeling.

take care and hope your mom gets better

I'm so sorry y'all are going through this. Stories like yours really put things into perspective. My little complaints and problems just seem so unimportant when there are others hurting so bad.

Your family is in my prayers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
