December Bandwagon Supporters

Recommended Posts

I am just putting this out there to see how those who observe feel about getting banded during the holiday season. I have had a lot of people say to me "What a horrible time of year to have the surgery." I purposely did the surgery before the first of the year for the simple reason that I need to make a lifestyle change' date=' and that includes holidays. I am actually pretty excited that I will not spend one more holiday season stuffed like a turkey for two months straight. Any thoughts?[/quote']

I think it's a bit easier to deal with holiday meals and Cookies while still healing and sore, it's easier to pass up. come next year I'll have created good habits and can make better decisions and not give in to temptation.

Joking.i just like to call the band my belt.

I was thinking maybe your doctor was making you wear a support. Kinda like the ones for your back and I thought how uncomfortable.

Good for you. Forming good habits has been the hardest part. Holiday food doesn't really have much effect on me. My biggest problem is that stupid Food Network. Diners, Drive-ins and Dives has some of the most unhealthy stuff one can put in one's mouth.

Unfortunately, if it tastes good, it probably isn't good for you. LOL

I'm 5 days post op and the smell of food is driving me crazy! I'm not physically hungry I think it's eating I miss! But I'm down 12lbs so I'll take it. I also went for a 2 mile walk today. Every day is better I just wish I didn't live with all these eaters!

Yes. It is a real pain being around people who eat!! :-)

I'll say I agree. I purposely scheduled mine when I did. It allowed me to still eat a normal Thanksgiving dinner before I started the pre-op diet. Christmas dinner has never been a huge deal for us... we open gifts on Christmas Eve (except for Santa - he doesn't come until that night so kids have to wait for morning) so everyone is more focused on that' date=' then getting to church for the midnight candlelight service. My mom is the only one in my family who knows I'm doing this & she's arranging it where I'll end up sitting at the kids' table. None of them will notice how I'm eating, LOL. I'll start the new year off with my pretty little "belt" on, ready to kick some poundage boo-tay. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

You crack me up. And I agree. I'm sitting here getting blood work right now and having my preop and everyone has said "oh. December 20! Won't that be awful with Christmas?!" And I'm thinking, "I'll be on pain meds when with the family on Christmas, I think YOU'RE the crazy one!" :)

I did the same thing. Surgery on the 17th. It works for me being in between semesters at school and it will teach me that holidays are not just for eating. I hope your surgery goes well! Can't wait for mine!!

Doing the surgery during semester break was a MUST for me. I could about imagine what kind of research and writing I would come up with if I had to do this during finals week! It is kind of unfortuante though as my original date was the 10th. I was actually all done with all classes but one on the 10th. Always one that drags out until the very end. Good luck!

Just had my last appt. with my surgeon and with anesthesia. It hit me when I was signing the consents - this is really going to happen. I don't know why I had that point as a reality check. Probably bacause of the language and rhetoric of the consents. Who knows. Anyhow, good to go for next Monday. Pray to God it doesn't storm so I can make it to the hospital on surgery day!

At the hospital for my final round of pre-op tests! Surgery a week from today. Starting to get nervous... little fears and anxieties sneaking in... Ugh!!! On a good note, I'm down 18 pounds with the pre-op diet! Pretty sure I can hit 20 pounds lost before next week...a good start I'd say!! How is everyone else doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
